Plated bullets in glock

I just drosed a glock 10mm today and was wondering if I can safely use played bullets at lower velocitys? Or should I just buy jacketed bullets.

not sure about 10mm but we have shot 1000's of plated 9mm's from our Glock 17 17L 19,and 34 with zero issue, light crimp

I've taken xtreme 165's and 180's to 1250+ and they worked just fine. Near max loads of longshot and power pistol. I say let 'em rip.

10mm bullets at lower velocities are called 40 cal.

Shoot your 10mm with plated bullets if you want. They are all good...

i loaded some with 11.4 grains of bluedot and some shots tumbled out of my g29. ima try to get sone fmj's and test it out. i still have a box left of the plated stuff

You were doing something wrong then if they " tumbled" out of your gun...

That's what Alliant is advertising as Jacketed load data. I'd back off a grain, and try 10.4, or even 10 (depending on what weight of projectile you were using).

I haven't had problems pushing x-treme or Berry's plated 124gr at around NATO velocities in the M9, or the lady's SR-9.

I loaded some Berrys plated 180gr flat points using AA#2 for a Delta Elite. Starting loads worked fine, but as I worked my load ladder to midrange loads, the bullets started tumbling.

I don't know if it was the fast burn rate powder or the rifling in the barrel or the relatively soft plated bullet...or the combination of all or part of the above

I have heard of Calgunners that load their plated to 1200fps with no problems, but I don't know what gun or powder. It is definitely not AA#2, because it's really too fast burning to get up to 1200fps.

I have since switched to Zero brand 180gr JHP's, but I might go back to experimenting with plated and slower burning powders in the future.

Well since it's hard to find brass I ordered some factory new LAX ammo since underwood is out of stock. Then I will it's the brass from that to load.

I use Rainier plated bullets @ 11.0gr of AA-7 for 1200fps. This is a published load. My friend uses AA-9. I have used Rainier for 10 years with no problems, just use a light crimp, you should just see a light ring on the bullet. The bullet is retained by the tension of the sized case. Have fun.

mulyhuntr and f4tweet, were these experiences with a stock barrel Glock 10mm?

Reason why I ask is I've had nothing but problems with Xtreme Plated 180's and 800X out of my stock-barrel'd 20SF. I'd heard nothing but great things from 9mm, .40 guys so I went with it. It just didnt work for me.

Loading Xtreme 180, Federal LPP, Light crimp and 800X @ 7.0, 7.5, 8.0, 8.5, 9.0, 9.4, 9.8 I had keyholes on more than half of the shots at 10 yards. I tried slow, I tried fast but nothing worked. My Hornady Manual states 1000fps for 7.3 and 1200fps for 9.6 grains.

My G23 shoots the Xtreme 180's just fine at all loads I tested.

OP I wish you more luck than I had.
