Dillon super swage users, is it worth it?

Right now, the CH4D swager would be my top pick if I was going to buy one. Lucky for me Tujungatoes bought one just to donate to the LA chapter of the California Reloading Club. So, I actually have one to use if I wanted to.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

Been wondering what else I could do.
I have the super swage and would like an alternative.
Would the rcbs die work ok in the progressive?
For rifle, I will weigh each powder load but the progressive is nice for prep.
Thanks for any thoughts on this.Comment

I just started using the CH4D swage dies. The way these set up on top of a single stage makes it really easy to move quickly. I have both the RCBS swage die, and the RCBS bench top swager, I can't move as fast on either of them as I can with the CH4D die.
Bumslie will probably be along shortly to copy everything that I said...
And if he references sitting or standing, it's not a 9mm vs. 45 thing.
I'm thinking about purchasing that. The RCBS swager rods (large and small dia.) are too soft metal wise and easily bent. Looks like CH4D is much stronger. The RCBS swager is going to be put on a standby/back up mode once I purchase CH4D.Comment

I thought about putting the RCBS in a progressive, but I don't think it will work, the set has a cup that fits over the bottom ram that strips the case off the primer swage on the downstroke. No place for that cup to id it's work, and the cases stick to the swage pretty well.
There is a guy on ebay with a swage for the 550 that replaces the primer ram, he says he will fix your press if it breaks, because "I know I will never have to fix one". That's hardly comforting to someone who doesn't know that for certain.Originally posted by tony270It's easy to be a keyboard warrior, you would melt like wax in front of me, you wouldn't be able to move your lips.Originally posted by repubconservPrint it out and frame it for all I careOriginally posted by el chivoI don't need to think at all..XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOriginally posted by pjsigYou are talking to someone who already won this lame conversation, not a brick a wall. Dillon: 300-400/hour I think I was able to get the last 2 times I used it(, maybe more?).
I was placing brass with my left hand and pressing down, then dropping the handle with my right hand and on the same upstroke grabbing the brass with the right hand, throwing it in a finished bin, then placing with the left again. I was booking, with no mods and the only lag time was when I had to shuffle the to-be-done-brass or if there was a jam in my cycling action.
Sooooo, yes... worth it, and fast, but I have never done anything on my single stage yet...Last edited by the86d; 04-16-2014, 11:34 AM.Comment

I have both the Dillon and the RCBS swagers. I have since moved on to a RCBS military crimp remover, it cuts the crimp away. The reason I used the cutting method is because both the Dillon and RCBS swagers sometimes do not completely remove the crimp. With my .308 brass, with the ones that did not have the crimp completely removed, the primer deformed ever so slightly and caused a hot gas leak that caused etching of the bolt face.
Since I went to the cutting method, no more leaks.Comment

Update. Got it, love it. Pounded out the 556 I couldn't face with the RCBS, probably 600 to 700 rounds in an easy hour.
Last night I switched to do some 3006, setup was easy, and I pounded out last months pickups in 20 minutes.
I'm glad I got it. Works well for me.
Thanks all.Originally posted by tony270It's easy to be a keyboard warrior, you would melt like wax in front of me, you wouldn't be able to move your lips.Originally posted by repubconservPrint it out and frame it for all I careOriginally posted by el chivoI don't need to think at all..XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOriginally posted by pjsigYou are talking to someone who already won this lame conversation, not a brick a wall.
