Dillon super swage users, is it worth it?

I balked at Dillon's price when I was setting up, and got an RCBS swage die that is use in a single stage, and it works well but is very tedious and slow.

I can process the brass, but it takes forever.

I've watched videos of the dillon and am ready to try anything, but it looks very similar in speed and action, one shell loaded, cam, remove and add next. Is it faster than a single stage?

Is there some better/easier way? I've got a ton of 556, 7.62 NATO and 30-06 to process and I'm dreading it.

Feels faster by at least 25 - 50% than using a die in a single-stage press. Much faster still perhaps if you install the string and rubber band mod.

I had the RCBS swage die first and after using it for a couple hundred rounds, I felt the same about it. Then when I was given a couple 5 gallon buckets of once-fired LC brass, I said to myself, "No way am I going to process this brass with the RCBS swage die."

That's when I ordered the Dillon Super Swage. Glad I did. Much easier and faster to use.

If you are doing more than 100 pieces it is absolutely worth it.

Its a cool toy, but to be honest its slower than reaming the pocket with a deburring tool in a hand drill.

That was my preferred method by the way, until I decided I didn't like removing metal from the primer pocket and finally sprung for the super swage.

I mostly use my Dillon swager for fancy brass

I just started using the CH4D swage dies. The way these set up on top of a single stage makes it really easy to move quickly. I have both the RCBS swage die, and the RCBS bench top swager, I can't move as fast on either of them as I can with the CH4D die.

Bumslie will probably be along shortly to copy everything that I said...

And if he references sitting or standing, it's not a 9mm vs. 45 thing.

Do you sit or stand to reload?

If you stand, I would say the dillon is a better choice.

I sat, and used the rcbs bench top swager. The rcbs bench top one is ~$25 less.

Both are nice, the dillon makes the shoulder sore, the rcbs makes the wrist sore.

I ditched both and now use the CH4D kit now. They are about $35. You use your single stage, but it has a ram that goes through the die, and your case sits on top of the die, above the press.

Incredibly quick and I love it. No need for extra space on the bench.

                  Thanks!

I just got one and didn't know about that mod. Pretty slick!

I prefer cutting the crimps off but, I have a Dillion that I tried and didn't really like it. I may sell it soon.

I prefer RCBS primer pocket trimmer on their case prep center. Faster, don't need sort brass, just cut away. Can use a drill if you don't have a case prep center.

I use it. It is fast, but I reaming it with a drill might be faster, something like a possum hollow unit.

I like mine. I set it so I do not have to sort brass. Just use feel to tell when done.
I have cutters and the RCBS unit and never use them anymore. I do use a chamfer tool to do 50bmg primer pockets

Had the rcbs die, used it on about 10 casings before I went running to Dillon! I'm glad I did, the super swage is worth it!
