No. I have the same love for Dillon that I do for MACS. IT all gets magnified EVERYTIME I or someone posts a problem with a PC that they are having and some jackass pops in with the solution being to "Buy a MAC..."

I know, it is funny and cute, but no, it really aint anymore. People that spend $4000 for a goddamn MAC DESERVE to be in whatever class they put themselves into by SPENDING that much for a computer that can not play any (cool) games. Are MACS perfect? NO. Are MACS the END all solution to EVERY goddamn computer problem? NO, but the people that were foolish enough to buy them clearly feel the inner need to try to sucker OTHER people into buying them so that their expenditure is somehow justified because of other peoples' actions. THAT is the SAME EXACT MENTALITY that many DILLON owners display. And THAT alone is why I HATE Dillon. But really it is not about Dillon, it is the prices and the users. Also in that SAME category are people that drive Volkswagon Jettas and Golfs or even Bugs- Okay, Hell- VW ANYTHING. Maybe exclude the Touregs or whatever they are called. People that drive those VWs drive like insane asshats it seems, AND I have noticed that quite a few of them get these vanity plates that say something like "FASTBOY". God I so wanted to pitt that guy off the on ramp of the 215 that morning...

So like I was saying, It seems that someone says- "Hey what is a good press that I can learn reloading on?" and 4 people will talk about the rock chucker, unless a guy was able to get in early and throw Lee up on the board, and then more will talk about Lee or RCBS or even one or two for Lyman or Redding or Forster and then someone will shove everyone out of the way and trip to fall on his face and as he is falling, he will scream- "GET A DILLON!" and THAT is his only contribution...

Do you see the pattern here? Now I realize that there are many people that do not like what I say because I am now stereotyping Dillon owners into ONE group, but the truth is that they are not ALL bad; just the few with the bigger mouths. They are the ones that ruin it for all Dillon owners.

Dillon may be fast, but they are NOT the end-all press like so many cult followers proclaimeth them to be. They are certainly expensive and clearly by looking at that powder dropper they do not have the intelligence to update it to a rotor so that means that they MUST have copied the whole design from someone else and killed that guy before his drawings got onto the market. How else can ANYONE explain that type of dropper? Here is how it went down I bet:
"Hey Dillon! Did you see my new invention that will make reloading easier?"
    "No, what is it?"
"A modified press and I have a few models and they are gonna be blue because people will pay for for blue and red things, but red was taken..."
"Wow, these look cool, you made these yourself?"
"Yeah, I came up with them last night in fact, I did not even get to sleep, I am on my way down to get them copied and sent off to a patent processing place and then to a machine shop to start making prototypes! This might be the machine line that saves my house and family and finally my son can have that operation to let him live another few years!"
"Who else knows about these awesome plans you have?"
"Nobody! I have not told ANYONE else ye-"
    BLAM!

And that is how the Dillon product line came to be...
(Okay, I did make up the part about the son needing an operation...)

Maybe it is because I am frugal but all the people yelling at everyone to "GET A DILLON!" has pushed me to staying RED. I will gladly try out the LNLAP and maybe even the RC with the piggyback, but for me to BUY a blue press means that I have gone crazy... Yeah sorry, I am broken like that. The ONLY way that I would EVER have a Dillon in my house/garage is if it was accquired at a VERY low price (like $300 or less for a 650xlabc) OR if I had set aside $3k for a new reloading press OR if I had a mission critical must make 4k rounds by the morning moment and I was not paying for the press- but THAT would only come under the condition that for EVERY little thing that goes wrong, I would be calling them *****ing at them for having such an overpriced press that they would have to EARN my money by having to deal with me... I do not think I would ever yell at Hornady.

And that is why I do not like Dillon.

Let me add this too, I really ramped up my hatred for MACS when I found that the little joke -err I mean tech support group for MAC in the appls stores is a thing called a Genius Bar. I dunno who the (eslf proclaimed) geniuses are but they certainly better not be calling themselves geniuses because they work on MAC computers. Oh HELL NO. I had some hardcore MAC users come to me with their recently purchased MAC from Kinko's when they sold all of their MACS and they had a password that they needed to bypass in order to boot into the OS. Guess what did the bypass? I REMOVED A STICK OF RAM and when the computer booted it discovered that the memory configuration had changed and it must have either **** it's shorts or just got so wrapped up in itself trying to wonder why ANYONE would dare take RAM out of a MAC that it forgot it had a PW and allowed the OS to boot with no further issues...

I swear that if I ever am out and I happen to walk by a table where the husband or wife are talking about their awesome new MAC they bought, I am gonna stop and punch their baby...

God help anything small and soft if people start a MAC conversation near me while I am out... And for the record, There ARE good MAC owners as well. There was a rather PLEASING MAC vs. PC thread in the tech forum and I was surprised at how subtle the MAC users were. They were not like the typical obnoxious types that I refer to in the wording above... So further proof that every rule has an exception... (except VW drivers...)

Yeah, just my pet peeve. Dillon/MAC/VW - three brands you will prolly NEVER find at my house, well, at least not PAID for. I do have an iMAC that someone paid 4k for in 2001. I like the speakers, but I am still deciding how long to rub my junk on it before I take it out and shoot it since it is not really good for much...

    /RANT

cruddymutt: I agree that ALL presses have their issues, some moreso than others. I think the LNLAP should serve you well. The one flaw I found on the LCT is that the priming can give you issues if you are not careful OR if you get 2 primers or less left. Then it fights. But it is nothing big and I learned to deal with it- Hey for the HUGE amount of money that I saved I did not mind the issues I had.

I was going to get the LNLAP as well when I started out but I chose not to ONLY because folks here said that I should have a look at the turret instead of the progressive for starting out but wanting to be fast with pistol. And I agree and the guys here gave me sound advice. And now 2.5+ years later I am still repeating what I was told and able to help people when they walk into the store and they want to get into reloading...

Damn I really need the smiley that takes a puff on a cig and then flicks it away like Dennis "I HATE GUNS" Leary in his NO CURE FOR CANCER show...

BTW, (I can say this here because it is a different response)

I do need to have a closer look at a Dillon in real life to see what the mysterious draw is with it. The 650xl or higher though. I would not waste my time on anything that was not a progressive. And even then I would still shop Hornady.

Good read. I concure. The buy a Dillon mantra, "because I bought one and it's the best" is getting old. Nut swinging is a part of every forum I surf.

I am looking forward to the Hornady AP delivery mid next week. The Cabela' deal is too good to pass up.

Buy the way stilly, I don't appreciate your stereotype. I comute a VW Golf TDI and it ain't fast.

Personally, I don't care if anyone buys a Dillon or not because I did. I got my Square Deal for 90 bucks in the 80's and my 550B in the 90's for free. Still got em both.

If someone asks me in a conversation, I will tell them what I think about the Dillon press.

If they buy something else because of price, color, hatred, etc., it doesn't phase me in the least, because I'm happy with my press and Dillons service.

I never knew there was a press war going on until I joined Calguns, and frankly it cracks me up.

It seems from what I read, that all companies have a product that in the end, makes ammo for the owner. Mission accomplished.

I also own a Rockchucker and a Mec and they make great ammo too.

We are all on the same team and my only enemy in all of this is the people in charge in the State and Federal governments.

Now that's something to be pissed about.

The press wars are fun to get into. Albeit dillon wasn't for me, it's fun to make someone a little butthurt. I think it's because I'm a native Californian, and we are pricks

I didn't pay for my Dillon as well.. That being said if I was given something in Red or Green, I'd still be reloading..

HEY! I TOTALLY agree. There is NOTHING wrong with ALL but ONE line of presses. And THAT is Smart Reloader. There is NOTHING SMART about RELOADING with their stuff.

If I was given a Dillon at a very cheap price, then I would take it, if I saw an opportunity to buy one at a very cheap price, I would take it, but I certainly would NEVER pay full asking price for one.

I WOULD (and I DID) buy a Lee Classic Turret at full online retail discounted price, but it was still $100. I WOULD also not think much about buying any RCBS or Lyman or Hornady press at slightly discounted prices as well. (I say slightly discounted because I like to shop around for the best prices).

So maybe, I like the machines, but hate the cult. I DO know that I have a RED cooler now for the next reloading clinic. I kicked that blue one to the curb... Back up into the rafters it went...

Also, I only have this hatred online in forums and in real life. Everywhere else though I am neutral on it...

Big Boomstick, I am sorry to hear about your loss. Perhaps you would like to upgrade to a 1989 Ford Ranger with a camper shell and a V6.

I am sure I can find someone to sell that vw to...

I really looked at the Dillon XL650 but there were some things I just didn't like about it. I really wanted to taste the Blue Koolaid.
Anyway, now to remodel my reloading bench while I wait for the new press.
I just about crapped my pants when I saw that you got a Hornady LNL AP for $380! I had to go and look at Cabelas when I realized that the one you are talking about is the auto progressive (AP) press, NOT the ammo plant (AP)....whew!

...reason I post is that I picked up the ammo plant from Midway back in February for $1200....thought that I just threw away $800!

I think that you'll like the press....I'm enjoying the one that I have....and I too was looking at drinking the blue kool aid, but decided to go red instead.

Stilly's rant on Macs was pretty funny....and I think that it's accurate as well.
