The fundamental fallacy in this entire thread is that the 223 caliber is suitable for hunting anything larger than a gopher.
I can see bringing your 223 carbine on a backpack trip, since you can blast rabbits and squirrels in half with it, and have fresh meat for your cooking pot.
But for big game, you should really get educated regarding the 308 and it's necked-down cousin the 243 as the minimum.
