    Hunting bullet

Ok so I built my ar for hunting doe out of state. Last year when I was for hunting my 7mm rem mag wasted too much meat and I have no other good alternatives. So my ar has a 1in7 twist and I was wondering if anyone knows of a good .224 hunting bullet. The shot will be less than 100yds and the 5.56 rd has plenty of power at that distance. I'm leaning the Barnes way. But I'm open to opinions.

Sierra Game King has always worked well for me.
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

I got one with a sierra game king last year. The projectile broke apart but I'm assuming because it was downed from only about 25 yards with a 7.5 swiss. Nosler partitions work well too. The .223 round isn't a very ethical deer round. Can you use a larger rifle?

Speer has always made a deer weight bullet.

Well with my 243 at 50-100 yds it's gonna waste at least 1 maybe more shoulder. My 7mm rem mag wasted the whole front end. And the same with my 06. The shot will be less than 100yds. I would have no problem using my 234 but it does not stabilize heavy bullets well and keyholes. So it will be pushing around a 75gr too fast.

Some times a fast moving bullet at close range will do lots of harm. In My 7Mag I shoot 150 GR Nosler Partition. It will hold up at close range. In the 223 stay away from light bullets as they will blow up. Chose a 70 gr solid base for the 223.

The 62 or 70 grain Barnes TSX. They'll penetrate like an 70 or 80 grain, cup and core bullet.

Yeah mine did not hold up to well. I was shooting noslers as well at around 3150.

I am leaning towards the 62 gr bullet.

Had one and sold it. Never really liked it too much. I would consider one in a handi rifle but that's it. Not a real fan of the lever guns.
