What I don't get is why you feel the need to come in here to tell us what to shoot.

Do you go into cooking forums preaching about the dangers of butter?

We are all aware about breathing in lead. It's just that we don't care. We're gonna do it anyway, no matter what. It's because lead is the best substance for a projectile.

Some people are going to do it more than others. They are going to have to deal with the consequences. But the vast majority of shooters don't shoot often enough to raise their lead levels. They could eat the stuff and not have any adverse effects.

You are trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

Shooters don't quit, they shoot, until the end. If you ever get into competitive shooting, then you will know, you'll never stop, and you'll never quit, ever. Like I said, Ride Hard, or Stay at Home.

Oh, yea, didn't notice that it was his old G35, he has been shooting the STI lately. Could it be lead level? It must be, because now I can't tell the difference between a Glock and an STI, it's that the cognitive recognition thing.... Actually, he may have been running a G34, or the G35 with a 9mm conversion barrel. See, it's true, now I don't know the difference between Glock models, probably because I have lot's and lot's of them, Glocks all look alike.... But why would you run a 9mm in Limited? Scored minor, that would suck, but wait, that is what I do.

Highlander, Have you tried any of the Hi-tek coated (Bayou Bullets)? Black Bullets International just recently switched to the Hi-Tek coating as well. You have to push them a little harder than Moly, but not as much as plated and definitely not as much as FMJ. I find that most of my recipes run right in the middle of moly and copper plated.

There is definitely less smoke (almost no smoke), and upon cleaning there is less crud coming out of the barrel.

It's less than plated, still more than moly but it's not crazy expensive like FMJ.

Might be something to consider. I've been using the Bayou bullets for a while now and just placed an order through BBI (they are slightly cheaper than Donnie Miculek). They don't leave crap all over your hands when you load up magazines like moly either.

Thanks Kode, I haven't yet tried them, but have been exposed to them. The cloud is like being in a welding shop, I had to move over 2 bays to get away from the smell. These are modified epoxy coatings that cure at over 400 degrees, and the exhaust may be worse than lead particles. However, I am willing to order 500 and try them, if I don't pass out....

I wonder if you were around a bad batch, or around some that were home brewed (you can buy the coating yourself - they will sell to anyone). I think like most things, there is a little bit more to the process than some are capable of doing well. I don't notice a smell at all with Donnie Miculek's Bayou Bullets. I just got my BBI shipment today so I haven't been able to tell if they pass the smell test. They look pretty uniform though, but that might be because the dye they used is black instead of green and the green shows more patchiness (for lack of a better term).

If you shot local to me I would even give you 100 to try out. Donnie might be obliged to sample you some, if you tell him how much you shoot.

I don't know if it will help your lead level or not, but it might keep your squad mates from *****ing about your smoke cloud.

The one guy was running home brewed coatings, but it was not as bad as the other 2 guys running commercial, don't remember the brand, but not Bayou. I will call Donni today and get a sample. I'm at Norco Running Gun every Saturday if you are in SoCal.

Haven't run Norco, I have to alternate between my wife at ISI for IDPA matches. We have small kids or we would shoot twice a month together. Instead I shoot compact matches and she runs CDP at the major match each month. Donnie will hook you up though. He's a nice guy and so far I've been happy with his product. One of the guys I know that loads for 6-8 different people has switched almost exclusively to Bayou. There are some compromises (you do have to push them a little harder), but so far I am happy.
