Shhhhh. Don't tell anyone, but when I buy a box of .45 or 9mm for myself, I feel very very dirty...

The only way I can do it is if I am doing it for someone else. Then I do not mind, but for me, NEVER! Why would I ever buy ammo when I can make it and lots of it?

Normal. Well as normal as any reloader can be.

I do like to buy a box or two (preferably from a LGS to show support for them) as a benchmark for feel and the chrono.

I will say that when I bought a box of .44 special and it was steel cased I was not happy. At all.
The brass is always a side benefit.
Been drooling over a S&W .460 and I need to factor in dies and such to that decision.

I am on my way to buy a bunch of dies for cartridges I have no intention of every owning. But, they are part of a "lot" of used reloading equipment. I own other dies for cartridges I probably will never own but, when I buy a new gun, the first thing I do is get dies and components for it. I even have dies for 7.35 and 6.5 Carcano, 7.62x38R, etc.

              Sounds perfectly normal to me.

My 15 yo daughter told me she wanted a rifle, thought something in the flavor of .243. Mentioned this to a friend, who promptly gave me a box of factory .243 to ensure I buy the gun . Well before finding the right rifle I had bought a bag of new .243 brass, a couple boxes of bullets and .243 dies. When I found and bought her rifle I already had a full ladder test batch of ammo ready to run. Only used the factory to zero the scope and get a base on velocity with the chrono.

I did pretty much the same for my .308, except in stead of any factory ammo I had some 7.62 milsurp I used for a rough zero on the scope. You are not alone.

Why didn't you work up a load? Is 37grs a magical charge?

Because I got a lot of bullets are are pulled unknowns. I won't be repeating this load I just wanted a factory load for her to shoot through the gun. The 37 grains is the median charge

If I don't personally reload it then I buy it from a local bulk reloader that I know. The only factory ammo I've bought recently was some Barnes 300blk and that was just because I wanted some 110 gn copper for hunting.

Normal... I turned down some WWB when I was purchasing my M&Pc during the craziness at Sportsman warehouse...

Salesman thought I was crazy not buying any ammo with my purchase, since they only sold boxes if you purchased a firearm from them. I told him to save it for someone that needs them.

You are like my friend who bought dies for caliber he does not own. He MIGHT own it someday.

Yea, already done that. Have all this .38 and .357 brass laying around, buckets of it. So I bought bullets, case gauge, a shell plate and a S&W 686. I'm sooo addicted, I don't even particularly like revolvers. Maybe it will grow on me.
