LAPUA brass, how consistent are they?

Trying to see if it's worth the $70 for 100 pieces of Lapua brass...

are they consistent by weight in each lot?
or should I just stick with Winchester?

308 Win is the caliber btw

    In my experience, yes.

Lapua is the only brand of brass that I will load out of the box with no prep. In fact, my first 800/900/1000 yard match was shot with never fired Lapua brass and I nearly "cleaned" the 800 yard target (148/150 points).

I think that Lapua is certainly worth it.

There are document cases of Laupa in 7.62x53r surpassing the 30th reload. The headstamp could barely be read and they had to swag the primer pockets to hold in the primer. For bolt action, annealing and just neck sizing goes along way.

Definitely worth it. I purchased 200 pieces and loaded 40 of them a couple days ago. Right out of the box I FL sized and checked length. All of them were within spec and didn't require any trimming. All fit in my case gauge perfectly on both ends. Primers seated perfectly without any issues.

I'm very satisfied with Lapua brass.

Has anyone actually weighed them? Like every single piece? I'm OCD like that

Ok I checked 20 random pieces out of one case of 100 that I purchased.

I used grains as the unit of measurement.

              171.5 x 1
              171.6 x 2
              171.8 x 1
              171.9 x 2
              172.0 x 1
              172.1 x 2
              172.2 x 1
              172.3 x 3
              172.4 x 1
              172.5 x 6

As you can see, a variance of up to 1gr between 20 pieces.

              Hope this helps.

Winchester works just as well. To be consistent, each will take some case preparation. If going with Lapua, might as well step up to the small primer (Palma) cases then.

What's the difference on the Palma cases?

I use Win., Rem, Starline, and just bought some .260 Rem. Lapua, because it was the only brass available at the time. I am very pleased with the quality, not only the brass, but how well it is packaged. There was not a single ding or dent in any of them, and all the cases were perfect in neck thickness, something not always true of the Rem. and Win. Starline is great brass too.

They use small rifle primers instead of the normal LRP:

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

Since its a pain to sort primers for consistency, it is thought if you use SRP's there's less potential for inconsistencies in ignition of the primer as compered to LRP.

Lapua brass is the cream of the crop in my opinion. Trim them all out of the box and their weights are even more consistent.

I used to load mine strait outta the box but now trim and chamfer/debur. I'm on my 14th reload with some of mine. No signs of giving up anytime soon.
