USPSA specifies a minimum distance of 10 feet for this very reason.

Agreed with the rest. At 4' you're too close to the chrono.

10' is the minimum suggested distance for chrono'ing rounds.

Also, if you're in direct sunlight, try to shade the unit.

What type of chrony is it? If it is a"Shooting Chrony", try putting a piece of scotch tape over those little "windows" on either end. This should help.

I wonder if it would make MY bullets go faster too. You might want to hold on to that chrony. Just imagine how much you could sell it for f it makes .45 acp go that fast safely...

Or maybe you just happened to find the ultimate bitcoin .45 acp load...

Haha I wish I was that lucky to find the ultimate 45 acp load. Well I will not have time to go out again for at least two weeks so I'll set up at 10' next time. Thanks for all the help folks.

Nothing new to add but 4' seems way too close. I'm at least 10-12' back and all I can imagine is that the muzzle blast from a .45 is way more substantial than a itty bitty teeny 9mm.

                When I chrono 45, its about 4', but I have a 5" barrel.

Well it depends on what kind of itty bitty teeny 9mm you are talking about. Most major 9mm Open guns are running over 1,400 fps and develope a substantial muzzle blast.

You want to have your chrono out at least 10 feet, 15 ft is better.
