Kinetic bullet pullers

I was using the kitchen-tile, but after sawing the yellow pole that the realtor failed to pickup into pieces (the sign with her picture made a good target for the pellet gun), I use one section as a vertical strike surface.

I have a chopping-block-like section of tree-trunk on order with some friends when it gets cool enough for them to cut some dead trees down.

have never felt comfortable hammering a cartridge
with a live primer using kinetic pullers

Make sure you don't "tap" I find the less bounce the better, follow through, like a baseball bat.

I can pop em in 2-3 whacks if I make sure to not bounce it.

So of course I screwed up a few rounds right as a newb I expected that. My question is how much force does it take to unlodge a bullet? I am swinging this thing like a hammer and so far 1 round has popped out and 3-4 I stopped trying (.40 & .45).

I am basically going to buy the RCBS collet bullet puller. However now I am a little concerned that the rounds may be too tightly seated in the brass.

Any comments from experienced reloaders?

You need to be SNAPPY with it.

Snap your wrist down and have it hit level and on concrete. If you bounce it off of wood or polymer or something that will absorb the kinetic energy it will not be as effective.

The back of a baby seal head is also a suitable striking surface if plywood doesn't cut it.

I smack mine against the mounting base of my Rock Chucker, couple good whacks and they are out, usually. You need to check your crimping, it's easy to over crimp. I have found that plated bullets like Berry's are easy to squeeze too hard. Good shooting.

I hold my kinetic puller in one hand and smack it against the head of a conventional hammer held in my other hand. It works very well. It only takes about 3-4 smacks to extract the bullet. I don't have to worry about an appropriate and effective surface to use. I just grab a regular hammer.

I do like that picture idea above though.

Buy the Hornady puller Collet system.

the RCBS will leave pull marks on all of the bullets, but it works equal well.

I have both but tend to use the Hornady because it tends to pull w/o marks.

Banging plastic on concrete got old the first time I did it.

Print out these pictures,, lay them on the garage floor. Do what comes naturally ... i guarantee the bullets will come out
