I don't know what happened, the more I try to look for the cause the more I'm stumped.
I do know, someone upstairs was looking out after me.
    Thank You
Perhaps half charge and detonation ? What brand revolver ?....just making sure I don't shoot one of them. Ruger ?

Looks like a Ruger in the picture. Doesn't matter the gun, a double charge with the right powder will cause a kaboom.

And what do you mean by half charge? A half charge wouldn't cause a kaboom.

I don't think a double charge will fit in any case.....or burn all the powder. Under charge will go boom more likely...experts can charm in

I have never seen an under charge cause a kaboom in real life. Only in theory and forum discussion. A half charge certainly wouldn't cause it, even in theory. It takes less.

Two things cause kabooms IME. Too much powder and bullet setback. Usually a combination of the two. Setback kabooms usually happen with uber fast/low volume powders. So not normally the cause in a 357 mag like in this case.

If I had to guess, I'd say too much powder in this case. Why it didn't overflow is beyond me. I don't know what the OP was loading on and how he was dropping the powder. Most likely I'd guess that he was already loading toward the top end and a little too much powder some how was dropped. Just speculation though.

Also many loads are capable of being double loaded into a 357 case without overflowing. I have some bullseye loads that you could potentially triple and even quadruple load into a 357 case.

True. Maybe even an endorsement for Ruger rather than a hit. Kind of like a glass half full point of view.

Glad you're ok. That is really scary to see what a double charge can do.

Depends on the powder and load. I just finished loading some 38 Special with 3.4gr Bullseye behind a 163 gr cast bullet. I could easily double charge, if not triple charge, that load. All it would take is a small interruption or distraction and a mistake on my part.

I'd say Ruger was looking out for you. They build one tough revolver.

Sorry to hear about the Security Six, Moyneur. Might be time to look into that Model 19, or better yet how about a Python? Just make a note to scrap that load!

Glad you're Ok. I still have your SPP's once you re-arm.

Glad you are ok. I'm pretty paranoia about my powder type and level. I keep only one type on the bench when I reload and I triple check to make sure it's the right one. I use a single stage press so I fill 50 cases at at time in a tray. After charging the powder, I use a flashlight to check the level in every case and if any looks high or low I dump it and refill it and check it again. I also stopped using Bullseye in anything but 380 auto because it's such a small amount in the other calibers that you can over charge or even double charge with it. When it comes to reloading I'm not too picky about too many things except this.
