    Those dreaded 45 ACP SPP

I've been tossing those 45 spp brass out of protest when sorting after I pick up at my range. I've been getting a lot lately and was wondering what my fellow Calgunners do with relativity small amounts of these freaky things?

I'm just putting them into an empty milk jug until I have enough to reload or recycle.

I like to keep them for emergencies. It's nice to have options. If I run out of lpp or if I don't feel like changing out the small priming system.

I have a box of the evil objects that i curse at every time i reload to get myself in the proper state of mind. Its like an alter to all that is bad in reloading.

keep em, once you get a few hundred you will be able to switch your press from 9mm to .45 without changing the priming system

I reload them. It's the only 45 I reload. I like not having to change primer assemblies and I have way more SPP's than large.

It's evaluation people, embrace it or complain.

Just curious, why do they make 45acp brass in both small and large primer pockets. It appears to be the only caliber that does this, is there a reason why there isn't a universal standard?

Since I also reload for 9, 40, 38, 357, I'd rather buy one primer size than mess around with two.

Why two primer sizes for the same cartridge? When the 45 ACP was developed, I'm pretty sure there were no SPPs. Manufactures which now load a variety of cartridges, most of which use SPPs can enjoy greater economy by adding 45s to that list.

The 38SPL is a much older cartridge and uses SPP so I know SPP were around when the 45ACP was developed so that is not the reason why it comes in two flavors.

LPP is the standard for .45acp. But some companies use SPP to save money or for their "green" ammo.

I just keep them aside until a rainy day. I SS tumble, so checking for stuck pins in the primer pockets is a regular part of my reloading. Easy enough to sort them out.
