I use plain walnut hull to clean, 2hrs in the vibrashine tumbler.

I use corn cob and flitz to polish the cleaned casings, about 6-8 hours.

    YMMV

      Paulo,
Yeah, I use Iosso, best stuff and the fastest besides an ultrasonic. All you do is dip the brass for a minute, rinse it off and you're done. If you want to speed up the drying, put it in your oven set on warm or low.

DO NOT USE AMMONIA based products, it will weaken your brass, be safe.

Man! I tried this last night and nothing! I have some .40 and some .223 brass that just wont shine up? I even went with new walnut and nothin'... I was doing good for the last 4000 cases or so and then, BAM! back to a crappy finish.

After cleaning 4000 cases, the walnut may just be worn out.
That's like 10 loads of 400 cases or 20 loads of 200 cases.

          Media wears out.
Replace it once it turns gray.

Quit using a vibratory tumbler and move to a rotary one. I have two Dillons and they clean just fine, albeit they're not pretty.

The brass out of my Thumlers Model B is a different story...extremely bright and shiny.

I ran it for 3 hours with NEW walnut with 4 sprays of simple green...nada.

I have been running plain walnut and it's been working great. I just sold almost 4000 .45 cases that came out bright & shiny.

I tried walnut media and didn't like it. I went back to corn cob media. It does a much better job polishing the cases.

As i'm sure you've figured out...cleaning methods are like chili recepes...
                  everybody has they're own.
                  "HOWEVER"
I like pet store corncob and dillons cleaner (as mentioned earlier)
don't be cheap with the cleaner.
Let it go better than an hour (2 or 3 is better )
DON'T USE ANYTHING WITH AMONIA IN IT !!!! (it makes brass brittle)
                  just my $0.02

I like short grain rice with Wicked metal polish. I run a batch with the polish, the rice turns dirty grey. I reuse it for a couple thousand. Then I run the brass in some plain rice. It even comes out of .223 quite easy. My brass is brighter than new!

I usually run it 6-9 hours to get really grungy brass to be shiny.

You can certainly use "Frankford Arsenal Brass Case Polish 8 oz Liquid", but the Nu stuff is as good. Just drop 1/2 a cap full of it into the media and let it go for a couple of minutes before adding ur brass.
How does this compare to Simple Green?

This is what I do...(Please, no anal retentive comments)

                            1. Deprime Cases
                            2. Clean Primer Pockets
                            3. Place Cases In Iosso Brass Case Cleaner http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...eitemid=623467
                            4. Rinse Cases In Water To Remove Iosso Brass Case Cleaner (will stop sudsing when complete), while placing the cases into a bucket I rub the necks to remove any excess fowling
                            5. Dry Cases in Dryer (towel on shoe rack)
                            6. Resize Cases
                            7. Remove All Traces Of Resizing Lubricant
                            8. Trim And Deburr If Necessary
                            9. Tumble In Vibratory Tumbler http://www.dillonprecision.com/#/con...y_Case_Cleaner for about 2 hours using corn cob media. To refresh the media I use Midway Brass Case Polish http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...108&t=11082005
                            10. Remove The Cases From The Cleaning Media And Clean Out The Primer Pockets
                            11. Rinse The Cases In Water To Remove Any Polishing Media
                            12. Dry Cases In Dryer (towel on shoe rack)
                            13. Load Cases

You can see the difference in the picture.

Using the Iosso Brass Case Cleaner and Vibratory Tumbler will get your cases so shiny that you will need sunglasses to look at them. This work might seem like a lot to do but when cleaning 100's and 100's of cases it goes pretty quick.

Darn!!! you took all the fun away!

                              here is my ritual.

                              1. tumble cases in vibratory tumbler (corn cob media, and brass polish) for 1 hour
                              2. lube, resize/deprime
                              3. trim/deburr/chamfer (all in one pass)
                              4. clean and uniform primer pockets
                              5. deburr/uniform flash hole
                              6. tumble cases for 3 hours in corn cob
                              7. load.

now as you can see, i am less anal about the cleaning, and more anal about making sure i do my part to produce very accurate ammo.

the only thing i dont have is a outside neck turner, which i will get soon.

I do the primer pocket uniforming/flash hole deburr among other things but I felt that most don't do that so I left it out.

Also, when loading BT bullets, I use a VLD chamfer and for flat base bullets I use the standard 45 degree chamfer.
