You can never have enough on hand now given the restrictive and costly laws being proposed on buying ammo.

With the current frenzy over obtaining ammo, the question I often hear is "how much ammo should I buy?".

Has anyone seen a good source of thoughtful information on this topic?
The Department of Homeland Security is answering the question for us...

As much as you can afford, reload, and store in your man cave.

Agree. There is never enough. Just depends on budget and storage space. Both can be easily remedied.

You should need LESS with a SHTF scenario because 50-75% of us will get massacred in our sleep within a week for bread and milk. The entire concept of a scenario like that is so unrealistic as to be pointless. But that will start getting me too much hate mail, so I will back off on that one.

I have less than a brick of .22s and less than 100 of anything else. I reload everything, but can find no components, so I am in real pain over here.

I like the idea of physical assets. You can always shoot, and barter ammo. You could even cash out when the panic comes around like it has now, and make some money on it, which can be put into other assets (no sense in keeping too many federal reserve notes around).

As soon as I have enough ammo for my kids to shoot for the rest of the lives, until then keep buying!

Clearly it's 5 rounds for every man, woman and child in America , if you follow the Homeland Security guidelines.

If you can carry it ALL in a lifted Ramcharger with the bench seat folded forward, and the front passenger area empty...

I say as much as you can really afford(I am not talking rack up any credit cards) Get into reloading if you can and get enough supplies to last you through the high demand times! I know I did, as I have seen this crap happen many times in the past.

The "leave some for me crowd", never seems to "get it"! This type of thing has happened in the past and will in the future. When they are told to stock up, they laugh, when those that have stocked up are not buying at panic prices, they cry!

I have reloaded for a number of years now and have "enough" to get by for the next year or five. I have not purchased ammo since the latest ammo craze(save for one purchase at pre panic prices, after the panic, was a hell of a deal and I do not reload for that caliber much).YMMV

There is never enough food, water or ammo.

if you're a shooter like me, there's never enough. If you're a hoarder or keep your guns stashed in the safe then it's not enough. so the bottom line is there is never enough so get it while you can. Don't worry about leaving some for others. get yours while you can.

Law abiding firearm owners have no chance in this state.
