First 9mm handloads.

Using a LnL with a powerfunnel.
The funnel gives quite a flair and I've played with the crimp quite a bit to smooth off the flaired end. Seems over crimped to me but any less and I get a rough/still flaired edge.
I'm using the Hornady seater/crimper die.
Opinions? Suggestions?
Using power pistol 5.4grains. 115g FMJ

They look fine, at a glance...

You don't have to flare a lot, though. Just enough so you don't damage the bullet when seating. Case flare is definitely one of those "less is more" types of deals.

OAL too long. Not enough bullet in the case. Try 1.100" to 1.135".

Should be ok. It does look to have a little too much crimp on it though. They do look a little long. Did you make a dummy round and did it chamber?

I'll do the plunk test and mag test. Assuming that goes well I'll take these first 5 to the range for a test drive and adjust accordingly.

First off your crimp die doesn’t look like its adjusted right. I bet you are starting to get some brass shavings on your press die plate.

The round looks like it may be failing the “plunk” test. Bullet looks like it MAY be contacting the rifling and it does not look like the cartridge is head-spacing correctly.

I don’t think the bullets are not seated deep enough. Are those marks on the bullet form the seating die or contact with the rifling? Don’t just match a factory rounds COAL. The bullet profile is different between the two; the ogive appears to be different between the two round.

When the bullet is in the barrel… can you apply a little pressure and twist if left to right… Does it spin freely or do you feel resistance?

I would proceed with caution before you shoot those. Run some more checks before you fire any off.

I think he's fine! The OAL fits in his mag, his crimp might be a little too much, but it's not "unsafe". What other "checks" would he need to run?

Take a look at pictures 2 & 3 of the series…

There looks to be more case showing in picture 3 than in picture 2… If you take a look at the barrel hood area you can tell its looks higher up vs the factory round.
