how to resize a 120mm shell?

so bare with me

find a pipe 110mm to insert and keep from crushing the shell..

heat the hell out of the neck and find something to clap it down and tighten it up so shrink it....

do i really want something 110mm??? sounds like that is going to make allot of work shrinking it down.. To just have to streach it back out.. im not trying to shoot it just want the shell to sit there and look good

Try the HVAC ties, start tightening near the bottom of projectile and work your way up, the last tie make it come a little bit above the case onto the projectile. Try to get the case mouth to dig into the projectile a little, like a MASSIVE taper crimp die...

How about the obvious? Shims or epoxy and leave the brass as it is.

Agreed but, in this case, I don't think the investment is worth the energy on this one. Anything short of a polished die is going to scratch up the shell.

I am on my phone but I remember seeing a series on YouTube on reloading shells for a 30mm anti tank gun. Custom dies and a 20T hyd press like the ones used at AK build parties. Of course they where doing it for live fire rounds in a NFA registered DD.

I'd suggest that OP Gets some felt and wraps it around the projectile over and over and over until they can basically use that as the buffer to keep it seated. Just use a narrow enough strip that it stays below the case mouth and it'll look great. You can also use it to hide things since the felt will allow you to remove the projectile (though the tighter you pack it in there, the better.) And maybe use a dowel at the back of it to keep it from seating deeper.

Here is a 105 I turned into my mail box holder.
Had to take it apart to punch a hole for the metal post that I put thru the center. Then reassemble it.
Easy enough to do if you have a torch and wide strap muffler clamp. Just be carefull if it has writing on it as the heat will travel and take it off unless you wrap the other part of the case with towels and run a hose on them. I think you could do the same with one that has been fired.

Agreed with CSACANNONEER, you aren't trying to play mythbusters or make a series episode about this, you are trying to complete a one time specific task.

Shim it, hot glue, epoxy or JB Weld it in to hold it, polish up the brass and enjoy it.

You could try to resize it and seat it as long as you have a half dozen more to practice on.

I think the only way to do this right is to roll size it. I would make a roller jig, put it under a jacked vehicle, use my body weight grease and some sort of flat tool to apply pressure to the neck to roll size it.

Just like making backyard silencers. Wrap the projectile in electrical tape to make a bushing and insert it.

My 2 cents worth, heat the case until the neck is a dull orange quench in water. This softens the brass, apply muffler clamp or stainless steel clamp to compress the size. Insert shell and hot glue in place. Make sure that the projectile is not a live one.

i forgot all about this post...

I had a machinist turn down a piece of pipe.. fill it with anit sieze and apply presure top down.. then resize and apply again.. took a few steps but turned out great...

the resizing did mess up the patima on the top but its a gradual color so it looks somewhat natural and there is a small rumple on one side but ya can hardly see it..

+1, this seems like easiest and best solution.
