how to resize a 120mm shell?

ok guys... looking for allot of help..

I have a huge 120mm shell from a cannon.. i have now located a projectial for it..

im was hoping to be able to drop the projectial in the shell and have a great display piece..

but allas the shell is streched out nearly 10mm..

so the question.. how can i shrink the neck of this huge piece....

any help would be apperciated..

I would find a pipe the suitable size and use it as a makeshift die. It'll take same lube and some elbow grease, but should do the trick.

Inside diameter. You want to force the case walls to come back to size our a little under.

Projectile size
inside case diameter account for case walls
Find a pipe that will create inside case diameter, inside diameter of pipe subtract case wall to get 120mm.

You possibly could try and heat it up and use something like a piston ring compressor, seat the projectile, clamp on with a piston compressor and throw it in cold water.

Pipe is sized by the OD, tube is sized by the ID.

once i have something 119mm dia what do i do with it???

That was kind of a joke. You need to find a pipe that creates your desired diameter of the projectile to achieve neck tension, 120mm. Measure the case walls on the cartridge and subtract that find your pipe diameter, So lets say 120mm - (casewall x2) 5mm = 110mm, you need to find a pipe of a 110mm or just a little under to seat the projectile.

They make pipe diameter expanders for exhaust pipes, I wonder if they make a pipe shrinker?

so bare with me

find a pipe 110mm to insert and keep from crushing the shell..

heat the hell out of the neck and find something to clap it down and tighten it up so shrink it....

do i really want something 110mm??? sounds like that is going to make allot of work shrinking it down.. To just have to streach it back out.. im not trying to shoot it just want the shell to sit there and look good

How about the obvious? Shims or epoxy and leave the brass as it is.
