small pistol primer in .45 help

do i still use the same amount of powder as i do with the large pistol primer?
if not how do i know how much to use?

Everything else is the same. You just need to use the SPP in the 45ACP brass that takes SPP. Same powder and amount. Same bullets and crimp.

I use them as "give aways" sometimes. My friends aren't going to really care, and if I lose the brass, it's no big deal.

I have saved up a respectable amount of the Federal small primer 45 ACP brass along with a few in other brands. For the time being it is an added step having to sort it out from my range pickups. But if I were low on components and it came down to loading 38 Special or 45 ACP you bet I would be using my small pistol primers in the 45 ACP cases.

I hear you but I joke about this right now because, well, quite frankly because I can. Yeah, when it comes down to it boxer primed is boxer primed and if I have to use a different primer, no biggie, (so I say now). But still. Reloading is a nice thing in that very seldom does anything change and when it does it is voluntary and for the better. Now I find that I have been infiltrated by these little tight brass-holes and they are all over the place. I am glad that there are only two types of primers that can be jammed into a 45, small and large. But still, it would be really simple if ALL rounds used the same primer. Now THAT would be cool. I would volunteer for that although I would ***** about being infiltrated again... But seriously, I have to catch myself because sometimes I will grab the wrong primers off the shelf and when I open them and see green or red instead of yellow or whatnot I am like, WTF? Oh, wrong size, and then use them anyways because they rarely matter it seems. I will say though that with a LPM instead of a LP I do not see as much crap blown onto my arms and face when loading 44 mag. But I have yet to have a round NOT fire due to a bad or wrong primer. I have loaded over 2k rounds now, 1600+ 44 mag and the rest have been .45 and 9mm and I am currently doing .45. Now with the ptx mod I am happily doing .45cal.

You poor thing. It is too bad you are in Sacramento. I would sell you a bag of it for a ridiculously low price if you were closer to me. It would be dirty but it would be a bag of mixed primer 45 because I do not have the time to go through it all and decap and clean until it is time to make some ammo.

Could it be that Large Pistol Primers are going the way of the old balloon head cases? While I am okay with the status quo of large and small pistol primers it would have been neat if the industry had standardized on the small format of primers early on for pistol ammo.
I shoot a lot of 30 Carbine in my BlackHawk using 32-20 data and small pistol primers.
