PS..I can help with interesting background and developmental intel.

NOTICE: To all you guys who want once fired brass. I will be decommissioned for the next 2 or 3 weeks. I wanted to ship to you today, but that just isn’t happening. But to wet your whistle a little, I call your attention to Slash’s great work to date. 45gr’s of H110, 240gr bullet, 2550fps, no real pressure signs, all this in a mere 20” barrel and this is just the beginning. Consider…2550fps is the Gov, published speeds, with a 147gr bullet, for the 7.62 NATO ball rd. and a 24” barrel. Now, put a 240gr bullet on that case and what will the speeds be, what 1500/1700fp maybe? Slash’s load with AA1680, would drive the pressures down and boost the speeds up, giving speeds in the 2600/2700fps area. Starts to look startling, doesn’t it?

I will repeat that "lack of pressure signs" does not mean it's safe, it just means there are no pressure signs.

Handoads are considered safe right up until the time that they blow up a gun.
After that, they are "a little hot".

Im glad to hear that you have a 16 in, I got a deal on mine and had to get 16 in.
I paid 575 shipped. upper only
I wanted a 20 in but a deal is a deal and i took it.
I thought i would lose some velocity compared to your numbers.
          It was shipped today.

I would say that's a VERY good deal! As far as a 16 incher, I don't have any way of knowing how a 20 incher would compare, but I can tell you mine is accurate, tight groups @ 100 yrds. off of a bench rest. (once I overcame the strong desire to flinch in anticipation of the kick!)

After weeks of obsessing I finally received my upper. I went straight to my dealer and picked up a completed lower he had in stock. The funny thing is that its a rock river.

I will be ordering dies and ammo tomorrow.
does anyone know who has ammo in stock right know.

                Let the experimentation begin.

I bought my initial 200 rds from Cheaper Than Dirt, but I see they are on back order. You might try calling Hornady and asking if they know who might have some in stock.

                        Found 450 Ammo

                        slash2
I found some ammo at Ammunitiontogo.com and ordered 10 boxes at 25.95 per box. I ordered my dies from Midsouthshooterssupply.com they only had one set and midway was out. I backorderd my powder and primers for the end of this month. I got a pound of h110, a pound of aa1680 and 1000 small rifle primers. Now I need some bullets and a cronograph then I will be ready.

Wildcatter I know you said you will be out of commission for a few weeks so when you get back do you have a good starting point for the aa1680 powder.
I have not ordered the bullets yet but i think they will be 230 or 250gr fmj hopefuly flat point.

Need some starting data for .450 BM and Barnes 275gr XPB

Hi, folks, been following this thread with great interest. I've had a custom .450 BM built on a Stag lefty upper, with Kreiger chrome lined barreland some other assorted bells and whistles. I've put about 100 factory rds downrange and am looking to load CA "friendly" non-lead Barnes 275 XPB Triple Shock Bullets for American Bison this fall in Oregon. I would appreciate it if someone would be kind enough to run the QuickLoads for this bullet weight/type.

Since I've never played with the Barnes copper bullets, any insights on what I might be alert for would be appreciated. From what I can tell, bearing area of the Barnes bullet should not be a problem, however OAL may restrict powder space available.

Here's some pics of my new hog thumper upper:

                              What a waste of money.
Take one of the finest barrels available, then put an un-even layer of chrome inside the bore.
The resulting dimensions are no better than a typical bushmaster barrel.

Are you sure you did not get a chromoly krieger barrel?

                              Oh, and welcome to Calguns.

I was looking at purchasing some bullets but had a question. I know that the 450bm uses .452 bullets. Why are some bullets .451 in diam.
