Bit by the 10mm bug

I really love the fact that I can reload 10MM and that we have so many options.

I do not reload .40 (have in the past, but not now) and I do shoot Winchester White Box .40 (from wally world) thru my Glock 20SF without issue. In fact, I've run several magazines loaded with hot 10MM and .40, Hot 10MM and .40 alternating in the magazine. It runs fine. Weird shooting something that CRACKS and zips out at 1500 FPS and the next round kinda poofs-out hardly making any sound...hahaha...but it runs. I do have a .40 barrel but don't run it since trying out .40 in my normal or one of my aftermarket barrels.

Like Bill above, I use Longshot, AA#9 and Blue-dot as my three favorite powders. I run berrys at 155 grain for plinking and I did buy 500 Winchester 175 grain silvertip boolets from Midway last year so I could reload some SD carry ammo. I used Longshot for that and it is perfect for me.

Lately I found some 135 Grain Nosler hollowpoints and wow, those are sure fun to turbo-charge (I used some old AA#5 I had from 1990). Those pop out at 1600 FPS and are incredibably fun to shoot. Real ZIPPY ammo.

I have barrels from Lonewolf, Stormlake (my Glock 29) and KKM. All run well.

I also have a Glock 20SF Long Slide that is a hoot to shoot.

Dang..being addicted to 10MM is so much fun.........

PS. I see that Starline has 10MM cases back in stock....hmmm..maybe another 1000 for the fun-of-it. ($147, not bad)

HOLD a second. Did I read this right? You are shooting .40 and 10mm out of the same barrel/completed g20 slide, so like, you just load up 40 and 10mm into the mag (designed for 10mm) and shoot them back and forth with no issues, AND YOUR .40 BRASS IS RELOADABLE? Damn, I shot .380 out of a LC9 and my brass is JACKED and jagged... (not my fault, he gave it to me and asked me to shoot it and figure out the problem. )

YOU CAN DO THAT? So then I can take a G20 slide/upper and put it on my G21 and shoot 40 and 10mm out of the same mag without changing anything over? THAT is cool if that is correct. Glock wins cool modular gun of the year...

Congrats.... The G 10's are incredible. I've had a G20 for awhile and I'm waiting to get ahold of a gen4. I load 180gr PD with longshot in new starline brass for my really hot stuff then once fired I don't load nearly as hot. As mentioned, l Longshot, Bluedot, AA9, are imr800, the most popular for hot 10 loads. Good info from Bill.... Good luck

I was thinking I read OceanB's post wrong as well. I would not advocate shooting 40 S&W in a 10MM barrel. The round is chambered on the case mouth. When you shoot a 40 in a 10MM designed barrel the cartridge is being held by the extractor. Not good. Maybe OceanB can clarify the post again.

Yeah I thought that I had read somewhere where the round is only being held by the extractor and being slammed forward can cause it to fall forward, even though it is only about 1/8th of an inch, it is supposedly not good and could jack things and or people up.

HOWEVER, doing this is still apparently NOT as bad as shooting a .380 out of a 9mm...

I have have shot thousands of 40S&W out of my G29SF and G20SF without a single issue. The round headspaces on the extractor (like 80% of all the rimless rounds shot through .380ACP, 9mm, 40S&W, 10mm, .45 Auto, etc. etc. etc.).

I also use 40 brass to load my practice 10mm rounds. Same thing happens the round headspaces on the extractor. The difference is how much powder, the size of the primer and the seating depth. Works fine.

You should use a chamber brush after shooting these type of loads as the amount of the chamber not covered my brass tends to get fouled, not unlike shooting .38spl out of a .357 Magnum revolver.

Anyone not comfortable with what is actually happening when loading and shooting these configurations should just get the proper ammo for their caliber and forget they ever read this post.
