This here is one of the oldest 357mag loads out there. Guys have been loving this load since before we were born. Super accurate.

    158gr lead SWC
    14.5gr of 2400
    Small pistol primer, not magnum.

This load is super fun to shoot and chronos at just under 1250fps out of a 4" Smith. I'll never look for another 357mag load as this one's a winner.

I don't know what munuals it's in if any. I got the data from some of the old timers on glocktalk.

I use jacketed bullets, but as above, I use 14.5 gr of 2400 with a CCI #500 primer in my S&W 66 4".

For books, I have Lee's Modern Reloading, Speer #9 and #14, and Lyman #48.

I have been using cast 140gr zingers from MO bullet Co. with 5gr Bullseye and averaging 1100fps out of my 6" GP100. Probably the cheapest load you will find.

And is there a good 38 special load with that powder. That uses the same primer?

Well... I actually use 14gr under an X-treme plated SWC, Nosler SJHP or Hornady XTP. But yeah. The 14-ish load of 2400 under a 158 grain bullet is pretty much the go to load for a lot of people.

Somebody with experience told me if a gun won't shoot 14gr of 2400 & a 158 bullet well there is probably something wrong with the gun.

Thank you, I am going to order some. I have a decent amount of .357 brass. I have a lot more .38 Special though, is there a load for that I can use this powder with? Or should I stick with W231 for that?

                    16.5 grn H110
                    158 Grn JHP
                    Small Pistol Primer

these loads DOMINATE. were talking close to 1600 fps, huge fireball, and loud as hell. Everyone at the range will know your shooting a magnum when this goes off.

These arent target or plinking loads, they are designed to dump a ton of energy into something. I got a good deal on 158 Grn JHP so i loaded up a thousand of them and use it to ring steel at 100 yards.

1600 FPS out of a rifle? There's no you're getting even remotely close to that out of a pistol.

Curious as well. I was given about 200 pieces of .357 brass and would like to reload it eventually.

1600fps is easily possible out of a pistol with that powder.

Looks like Unique is better for 38 Special, so I think I will order some of that. But 2400 sounds great for some .357 for my revolver and lever action!
