What reloading NONOs do you do and does it work?

I shoot lead through Glock barrels even though the errornet tells me not to do so.

I also am not afraid to go above published max loads for certain loads. I guess I've loaded long enough to realize that many companies are very conservative in their data. Lawyers...heh.

I don't clean primer pockets...ever. In fact I don't do anything that has no measurable positive effect on the quality of my ammunition.

I do curse the man who created .45 brass with small pistol primers.

I don't obsess about how new my used brass looks after tumbling.

I do calibrate my beam scale every single time I start loading, and I always dump the first thrown charge back into the hopper because it is always heavier than the rest.

I just posted about "calibrating a beam scale" a while ago....other than "zeroing" the scale with the adjusting "knob" on the base how do you "calibrate" a non electronic beam scale (like a RCBS 505?)?

stilly, they are called duplex loads and some of the older guys use them. The rationale explained to me is that back then they only had a couple powders thus customized the performance to what they wanted not by mixing, but by loading one on the other (sometimes adding a filler like cream of wheat to get charge density to 100% so nothing mixes). That comes coupled with the explanation that today we have all sorts of whizzbang powders for every purpose and don't need to duplex anymore.

Folks still do it though, and definitely belongs in a thread for "reloading no-no's" that people actually do.

Actually, zeroing is what I meant.

Don't mix powders. You never know what proportion of powder A and B you may get in a given charge. That's just asking for a stupid accident to happen.

I would think there are enough powders out there at this point in time that one wouldn't have to whip up a batch of "tite Boss" (tite group and trail boss) or "H-341" (231 and H-110). And to do that just for the sake of doing it - well, they're your fingers.

Wow, looks like I have a lot of "bad" habits to learn! About the worst thing I do routinely is carefully press out a good primer on the occasional piece of brass that gets mangled in the press...but I'm still relatively new to this with only ~two years under my belt.

A mosquito landed on my arm the other night and I got mad and smacked him and then put him in a 2400 load for the 44 mag as he was trying to figure out what just happened and later on I shot him out at the indoor range. That will teach him...

LMAO! Oh that got me so pissed off at Lee for them talking how cool their stuff was so I sent them a flaming e-mail one night (LATE, just like now...) and some guy named Peter replied back telling me that the reason why the hopper is off by so much when I dump it and then adjust and immediately dump it again is because it has to go around 4 times! Oh man that pissed me off to no end. I about threw out that $40 red POS that I paid for.. Now I got a bigger, longer (and ucut!) red thing made of metal and plastic instead of plastic. I did that because I did not want to keep trickling my loads up from 21.38gr to 24gr with that imr 4227. The lee adjustable charge bar ONLY goes to 21.38 and after that it can accept nothing bigger.

Anyways. LoL@Lee for putting up with my flames in their e-mail box late at night.

I never trim pistol brass

I load pistol brass until the case splits (Im sure ive accidentally loaded a split case too)

My media is nearly black because i never change it

I usually dont chamfer or Deburr rifle brass

Dont store my powder or primers in a lockable cabinet

I've used red dot in my 223. At 7gr it's like shooting a 22. I could even shoot it without earmuffs. Then I read somewhere that a guy was able to get an ar to function using red dot and claimed he didn't start seeing pressure issues till he reached 14gr. That I found out was untrue. At 10 gr I saw primer flattening and no cycle. At 11gr it locked up the action. After finally getting the bolt out the primer had blown out and case was unusable. And 13gr and 14gr wouldn't fit in the case.
