Wolf Primers

Has anyone out there used Wolf primers and If so what was your experience?

I have used about 6k of their lpp primers with only one dud.

There is a known problem what Wolf Large Rifle and WC846 due to the flame retardant.
I get a fail to fire with small pistol maybe 1 per 100.

But I have fired more than 10k small rifle primers without problem.

I find them difficult to seat. But, when they are seated properly, they fire every time. Doesn't seem like much of a big deal, but I'd still go CCI, Win or Federal instead.

They used to be good, quite a while back. Then, according to Wolf, they changed the priming compound and the hardness of the cups in small pistol. After that they don't go off reliably. Probably a 10 to 20% failure rate. Not a big deal but I bought 50,000 of them. Because of this problem, again according to Wolf, they changed their policy to no longer offer a warranty on reloading products.

I've shot about 25k Wolf 223 small rifle primers without a single issue.

I had a 8 out of 100 fail rate but I only had 1000 so I got lots of fail drill practice.

I shot about 500 LPP so far and all of them went bang with good accuracy. Havent tired their SPP yet but will do so in the future when I find time to hit the range.

I have used approx. 3000 in small rifle without a dud yet....have another 2000 or so to use up this summer then will buy again...

No probs with them here, during my research prior to buying them the FTF issues I read about seemed to be most frequently with striker type firearms that were often modified with lighter springs ect. I have plain ol' revolvers and pistols and haven't had any issues. I've not loaded much rifle yet, but they've been fine so far in my AR-10 and AR-15. From my experience, you can't beat 'em for the price, and other brands aren't twice as good even though they cost twice as much.

I have used a lot if SPP from Wolf and light strike in only one of my semi auto pistol occasionally, no problems in anything else but that pistol.

The Wolf/Tula primers are good to go. With the exception of my .45 Colt loads, which use Winchester yellow primers just 'cause I like the "cowboy" look in .45LC yellow cases, everything I reload now uses the Russian primers. It is true that they have somewhat harder cups, so if you have a lightened hammer strike, that might be an issue (stick with Federal). But if you've got an unmodified trigger, like I do, go for the Russkie primers, comrade!

The slightly harder primer cup means you do need to make sure to seat the primer fully. I had that issue with two CCI primers as well, but the second strike set 'em off nicely.

I will continue to use the Russian primers, be they branded Wolf or Tula. They're both made in the same factory in Murom, Russia.
