    Noobie Tips: Bullet Pulling

Most new reloaders but an impact or "Kinetic" bullet puller. After breaking a couple ( & no I didn't screw up that many reloads) , I did screw up & decided there had to be a better way to pull bullets. And Yes Shirley, There is a better way! ( If you have a single stage press handy)
    The RCBS Collet Bullet Puller!

They are also made by Hornady & a couple others, BTW. But I bought the RCBS brand & over time got the collets for all the sizes I reload.

Today I pulled bullets from 15- .303 rounds that were corrosive milsurp. In less than 4 minutes I pulled 15 bullets. I've pulled more in less time w/ non-military rounds. So much simpler than the Kinetic style. I still have one, but if I have more than one bullet to pull, I'll use the Collet style.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.

Here is the puller installed. Raise the shell up till the bullet goes in the collet. Tighten the collet down. Lower the shell & pop goes the bullet. Loosen collet to retrieve bullet. You can reload the bullet in most cases. These were Bi-metal & not allowed at my range, so I tossed them. Once in awhile it might take 2 tries. YMMV

Yup, the collet puller is the way to go if you need to pull more than a couple.

I have collet and kinetic pullers.

They each have there place. I tried pulling some 9mm with the collet puller and couldn't get a good enough grip on the bullet.

I've been using the same RCBS kinetic puller since the early 1980s,Ii just pulled the bullets from nine 260 Rem loads yesterday.

I love to grab all the BAD bullets left in the tupperware bowls at my local indoor range. I find lots of neat ones. I like to grab them and pull them apart and reuse them for other things.

My kinetic cost me $15.00 and it came with 3 sizes that do just about everything.
I also get to discipline the dog at the same time I pull bullets ++ (I can say that because it is my g/f's dog and it is a chihuahua...)

THIS collet one is only good for about ONE caliber. If they made one that was good for about everything with only 5 collets to buy that would be great but if I want to pull .45 then it will cost another $15.00 and if I want to pull .25 it will cost another $15.00. Ya see where this is gonna go? I am going to be reloading for 5+ calibers but I will take apart anything I come across and use the bullets or melt the lead and use the powder to blow up anthills..

If you only want to use this to pull the rounds that you reload then it may work great for you, but for tweakers and those of us that like to take things apart then the kinetic is probably a better choice.

If you have a nice set of stainless steel choppers you don't need bullet pullers.

Yeah.. That's a great tool to have on your reloading bench. I pulled about 60 or 70 M2 AP and M61 AP bullets from some corroded rounds a few weeks ago with mine and it only took 10 or 15 minutes.

I have used the RCBS collet puller for a long time. It works great for pulling jacketed bullets.

I recently bought an RCBS inertia puller (hammer style) as my collet puller damages lead and plated bullets too much for my taste. The RCBS hammer style puller has a foam pad where the bullet lands, so the softer lead and plated bullets come out undamaged (not counting any sizing the brass has put on them). Finally, if you are pulling wadcutters, the hammer style is really your only option.

I would agree, but the hammer style puller scares the cr*p out of my dog whenever I use it.

just pulled a ton of rounds with the kinetic, no issue.

I DO see enormous value in the collet if i wanted a lower risk way to seat bullets longer without losing the powder. Reseated 5 factory rounds just off the lands like this and started with 20 cause 5 of them I accidentally went too far and popped the bullet out completely, spilling the powder.

wouldnt have been an issue with a collet.

other that that, my only gripe is I tend to wear out the collets on kinetic pullers with non rimmed cartridges. And no, I dont pull many either. Just not a one size fits all product and is trying to be.

I still think its fine. Just dont useit enough to want to optimize it.

Save those magnet-attracting bullets for me. No restrictions at my range other than on the steel targets!
I have a disc puller for my Forster press -- fast, neat and easy. Run the round up into the disc and a flat, four-finger metal spring grabs it when you reverse the ram. Just keep going as the next round pushes the pulled bullet free.
