I use walnut and add a cap full of NuFinish then just let it go for a couple hours.

What you really need to look at is how how coarse the media is. It's acting like sandpaper. A fine walnut will polish like corncob, no difference. Use a coarse walnut for dirty, dull brass and high polish with fine corn cob and an additive. Best thing to use to extent the life of the media is to use "USED" dryer sheets. They pick up the dust left behind so your not coating the brass with a fine dirty dust.

Harbor Freight sells a decent coarse walnut in a big box. For me, the lizard bedding walnut found at pet stores is to fine, polishes ok, but doesn't clean dull brass.

I do. It's very inexpensive and no shipping charge. Before using it with brass, I run it in my tumbler with some mineral spirits and used dryer sheets to reduce the dust. After the dust is gone, I add brass and a bit of nu finish and clean away!

I use have always used walnut due to it cleaning faster.I then wash the brass with hot water and a little TSP,rinse that off good.Dry on a towel in the sun or in a area air can get to it.It is very shiny.I have had range brass mixed up with mine and had to replace primer pins a couple times from trapped crud.So washing eliminates that issue as well. The water may get trapped in the old primers,so let them dry a day or two before deprime and sizing.

i use the petstore stuff without any polish.. im not worried about shiny however i did once forget about it and left the tumbler running for almost a week.. that was some very shiny brass.. ive since installed a twist timer so forgetting about it is nolonger an issue.. one of these days ill add a dryersheet and see if it cuts down on dust.. for now everything just gets tossed around in a towel

That's about the best idea I have heard in at least a week. No more waking up at 2:00am and stumbling down a dark stairway because I remembered I put a hundred loaded rounds in the tumbler at 9, to get the lube off and tidy things up...
