    Tumble media

Are there any clear cut differences between using crushed walnut & corn media?

    Is price about the same?

Can you get more cleaning cycles out of one over the other?

Does one clean better then the other in the same or less time?

Or is it pure personal preference?

Bonus question: Have any of your tumbled anything besides brass (like a small car part or something) in your tumblers? How did it work out?

    Corn polishes better.
    Maybe.
    Dunno.
Walnut seems to clean faster but the rouge gets all over the dies.

Corn is not aggressive enough for cleaning rust plus the media gets dirty quickly. I tried to tumble bolts.

The walnut will clean and polish faster But the corn will polish it more if that is what you desire. Both work. I use walnut(treated) and am happy with it. Nothing against those who use both or corn only.

I have never used corn media. I have only used walnut and its been great. Put a cap full of NuFinish in and it cleans and polishes the brass up pretty good.

I feel I get enough shine out of my brass using treated Walnut. Corn will get it looking like shinny jewelery but takes longer like mentioned before. What ever you get, dont get that walnut media thats from Lyman that has a red color. That red color will be left all over your brass. I buy untreated walnut media then treat it myself with this stuff. > http://www.midwayusa.com/product/212...ss-case-polish

I 100% absolutely agree with this. Avoid Lyman's walnut like the plague!

the question is, what is the difference between corn cobb media and the worlds best cat litter?

I have both in separate tumblers.

Walnut works faster than Corn Cob. Corn Cob polishes brighter but doesn't seem to last as many cycles.

If you just want cleaned brass Walnut seems better. If you want nice and shiney brass, Corn Cob seems to be better. If you want "Uber Alles" brass, Stainless Media seems like the way to go.

                      Just my $.02

                        Hmmm.....

I have two tumblers too. So perhaps starting a batch in walnut and then polishing them off in the corn is a good way to go.

                        Have you tried that?

I think I get the best of both walnut and corncob. I run 2 tumblers, each with a 50/50 mix of walnut/corncob. Clean and shiney, and the NuFinish is icing on the cake.

Exactly, that is what I am doing right now. It is a little different for handgun and rifle, but yes, quick clean in Walnut (with dryer sheets to pick up soot), then final polish in corn cob.

I got a big Dillon tumbler for Christmas so I started using corn cob. That thing is so big, aggressive and quiet, eventually, I will likely just do all my bulk tumbling in my Dillon and Corn Cob.

I will keep my small tumbler (probably with my remaining Walnut) for small batches of more exotic calibers.

Nice racks are much better. You can grab both sides of the rack to help stabilize while mounting.
