help me order a dillon 650 setup

    hi all,

got the go ahead to pull the trigger on the dillon 650 setup. i want to outfit it for 45acp and 223 rem. i will add other calibers later (308, 30-06, 38 super, 9mm).

from my limited knowledge of dillon products and using brianenos.com's order guide, here's what i put together. is this correct?

    556.95 dillon xl 650 in 45acp
217.95 dillon case feeder - large pistol
123.95 brian enos as it should be upgrade (strong mount, roller handle, bullet tray)
    67.95 dillon powder check
24.95 dillon 650 spare parts kit
45.90 dillon 4 small primer tubes and 4 large primer tubes
62.95 dillon 45acp carbide die set
    14.95 dillon 45acp case gauge

    76.95 dillon 223 conversion kit
101.95 dillon deluxe quick change kit
37.95 dillon small rifle case feed plate
    24.95 dillon 223 case gauge
    98.95 dillon super swage 600
    26.95 dillon universal decapping die
    ---------------------------------------------
1483.25 shipped to my door (free shipping over $400)

i already have a dillon 223 3 die set. i also have all the rcbs dies from my rock chucker single stage set up that i could transfer over?

    is that list correct?
did i over order any parts like the case feed plate?
    am i missing anything?
    am i over paying?
should i order from somewhere else for cheaper?
    group buy anyone?

    thanks all!

edit: forgot the swager and decapper

    Pricing is universal.

I didnt use my strong mount or bullet tray. My bench was tall enough and I can pick up bullets from the box.

Powder check, if it makes you feel better.

For the quick change kit, a second powder drop is nice but a $75 luxury at the beginning.

Pistol case gauge, you can use your barrel.

All dies have the same thread.

I assume you have a scale and bullet puller already?

joe: yes i have the rcbs scale and bullet puller from my rock chucker set. i figure its best to buy all at once and not think "shoulda whoulda coulda" and test it out myself... i figure i could always sell the the stuff i don't use...

mark: what is the $25 bullet feeder? i was thinking of adding one of the auto bullet feeders later but pricing has them around the $400 mark...

Can't go wrong with Brian. He will ensure your Dillon Success! Ordered my 650 from him a year ago and couldn't be happier!

101.95 dillon deluxe quick change kit.

It's good to have two powder measures for convenience I find. (One set up for small powder bar & one for the large powder bar for pistol and rifle calibers) I wouldn't suggest you get a measure for each conversion as its simple to adjust and dial in your powder and pop it from one tool head to another.

Another thought is swapping out the bolts on the priming system so you can skip using allen keys to change from small primers to large. Always the slowest when changing to a new caliber.

The most helpful is having a tool head for each of your dies & powder funnel. That way you set and adjust them up once and your good to go! You made a good choice going with the 650!!!

Looks like you're covered. I would call Brian and order it. He'll let you know if you missed anything or might even talk you out of something (like an extra powder measure).

Do you have a balance scale?

Do you have calipers to measure the OAL of the cartridge?

Reloading manual? So you don't need to rely on the internet to get load data?

Consider LEE dies if you want to save some money ($62 for dillon dies when $30 Lee dies will work fine, but that's up to you)

                    Bullet puller.

Maybe some plastic cases to keep your new cartridges in, if you haven't been saving the boxes that your factory ammo comes in.

Don't forget to wear safety glasses and your ear pro when loading, incase a primer pops on you.

POSSIBLY get the Dillon DVD that will help guide you through setup and loading stages, it's great for a new reloader.

If you don't the the DELUXE caliber quick change thing (deluxe means it comes with a powder hopper) check to see if you need a new powder die. I didn't get the deluxe so when I added a caliber to my 550, I just bought a new toolhead for the dies and the caliber conversion kit...but it doesn't come with a powder through die (that you attach the hopper too and that holds the expander thingy).

I don't think the presses come with mounting screws/bolts, so you'll most likely want to get a few 1/4" screws/bolts and decide where to mount the press when it arrives. THe RL550 uses 1/4" screws, not sure about 650.

Remember to dial 1 before 911.

Forget about stopping power. If you can't hit it, you can't stop it.

If you're buying the 650 in 45acp, why the extra dies?

Other than that, looks like you're good.

agreed....get another tool head...adjust the dies and powder setup once. It would suck to have to clean out the powder hopper everytime i switched calibers. Once you get the little issues with the 650 worked out you will love it.

the 650 doesn't come with dies. it comes with the caliber conversion kit to run 45acp dies...

i could use the 45acp rcbs dies from my rock chucker. was just thinking i keep the two sets separate in case i needed to? or that just stupid?

yes, i have all of that from my rcbs rock chucker setup. i will need a new reloading manual as the one i have is over 12 years old. i have the rcbs 5-0-5 scale, bullet puller, and many sets of measuring calipers.

i also have a ton of bolts and nuts from my woodshop that makes mounting this easy so i'm covered there too.

i agree with the deluxe kit, just makes it easier to set it once and forget it once its all locked in place. although i would still do a sanity check on all stages the first few passes before going into robot auto mode.
