Chief, you're right. But I think the OP is just curious to find out what it is, not to necessarily load it, right?

I'm also very curious indeed. I thought 748 was fine. This stuff is like baby powder fine.

I agree, it should not be loaded even if you think you have a match.

You cannot identify powder by sight. Different lots will sometimes have different deterrent coatings and make it look different.

        Curious

No, I don't plan on shooting these for two simple reasons:

        1. They aren't factory manufactured (doesn't necessarily make them better than a reload, but peace of mind and safe to shoot generally)

        2. I didn't reload them. Game plan is to reuse as much as possible (copper, primer, brass)...

but, I'd sure like to know what this stuff is as it looks like it meters well (I'll know for sure when I eventually pull these and see what the powder properties are actually like). If this is a canister powder, I'd potentially be interested in using it for future loads. Can't guy it if it can't be identified so I know what to pick up.

You are a wise man! Please let us know if the mystery powder is ever identified (confirmed identification) from the way it looks metering through a Dillon powder measure would be a pleasure.

My guess would be "true blue" from ramshot, I use in 5.7x28 and 44mag. It is very much like beach sand in size I will post a pic.

I don't agree with tossing it. I think he can safely determine a safe load of it if he has a lot of it and it came from rounds which he bought legally and were made correctly.

Accu #2 maybe, just guessing. I reloaded Accurate #2 and the first picture looks like it. The second one doesn't because of what seems to be bigger bits.

Please reread post number 2. Reloads and the OP does not know what powder was used! From you post above you are a brave man who has questionable reloading skills!

Reloading you do not GUESS! Guessing is very expensive and painful!

Looks like Lawn Fertilizer to me..

So how many rounds did you pick up? How will you pull the Bullets?
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

Again, it might not be "canister grade" powder of any kind. I've know of some old commercial reloaders who would reuse military pull down from blanks or other wierd stuff just to save a buck.

Almost 100 rounds. I'll see if I have a collet big enough for my Hornady and if not then it's inertia time.

I think we can safely rule out 30+grs of AA #2.
