Contrary to what other manufacturers tells you. ALL Progressive presses will require a little "tweaking" in order to get them to run properly. Trouble spots on the LNL will be indexing, which is VERY EASY TO ADJUST and primer feed. Be sure to DEGREASE the entire press and then go back and DRY LUBE. I found it helpful to take some 600-800 wet dry sandpaper and lightly polish the primer slide and slide ram/guide. Just enough to knock off any burr's. I then sprayed a dry lube on the primer slide and followed that up with a little dabble of graphite. Be sure to insert your primer tube the correct way. A "up-side-down" primer tube will cause problems. The primer slide is activated by a cam rod that can be adjusted. Careful adjustment of the cam rod will eliminate about 90% of primer feed problems. Once it's adjusted you won't touch it again. Also, don't screw the primer shroud tube tight. Loosen the shroud tube about 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Shell holders benefit from a little polishing with a Dremel tool and a felt tip in each shell hole.

While you are loading, if you ever feel unnatural resistance, STOP and clear the problem. If you use brute force, you will break something. When I feel a jamb, 99% of the time, a spent primer has not cleared the shell plate and is locking up rotation of the shell plate. Be sure your decapping pin on your sizing die is long enough to clearly push the spent primer clear of the shell plate and through the plastic drop tube.

I have loaded on every model of Dillon and I own a SDB. I love my 2 LNL's. Once it is set up and running smoothly it's a dream to use. Good Luck!

thanks for the tips! will be needing as much help as i can get when i set this thing up.

question regarding Dies. would you say getting the Hornady New Dimension 3 set dies for 9mm is good? or are there better choices. (dont forget about the free 100 bullets )

I love my lnl ap and Case feeder. Loaded thousands of rounds!

Lee fcd crimp die for any rifle and pistol calibers is a great tool!

Also the piwderthru rcoanders are nice. And the powder Cop is a great tool too. I'm in east bay of you need a hand? Dunno where you reside

The easiest way I've found to find stuff on ManVenture Outpost is to get the manufacturers part number from someplace like Midway, then search with that. They likely have the Hornady dies and shell plates you're looking for...it's just hard to find because their search is as bad as the CGN search.

They also carry bullets and brass, I found some bulk Hornady .223 and .308 match stuff a while back for a good price.

I wouldn't sweat getting the case feeder right away, the delay will give you a chance to get used to the press before you add even more Rube Goldberg stuff to it. Check out the RCBS Lockout Die and perhaps a Powder Funnels powder through expander to help assure pistol rounds are charged properly. That 5th station makes it very flexible for different setups.

i have my eyes set on a 9mm die set (possibly the Hornady New Dimension) along with the RCBS Lockout die.. and a shell plate...

the only problem i have now is the fact that the things i need.. not 1 store has all 3 of them either in stock..

manventure has most of the things i want but no Lockout die.. so pretty much ide have to place like 2-3 orders meaning 2-3 shipping charges to get what i want..

or buy it from midway/cabela and wait for it backorders to be cleared :/

The Hornady ND dies are REALLY good on pistol but ive read bad reviews for rifle.

Any standard dies will work in the LNL including, Dillon, Lee, RCBS, Redding, Bonanza, Lyman, etc. The LEE dies are a little short but, they will work.

I have Hornady New Dimension 9mm dies. They are excellent! HOWEVER, they come with a bullet seat/roll crimp die. I STRONGLY recommend that you also buy a "Taper Crimp" die. Seat your bullets with the regular seating die. And, crimp your cases with the taper crimp die. A KEY point here is to adjust your seating die so that is does not start a roll crimp. All you want is your bullet seated. The taper crimp die does the rest.

I have not used the RCBS Lockout Die. I DO KNOW that it is hard to adjust properly and many gave up trying. Others got theirs to work and are very happy. I have Hornady's Powder Cop Die and have been very happy. All it does is give you a visual indication of the powder level inside the case. ALSO, one of the primary reasons I like the LNL over Dillon presses is that bullet seating is completed in the front of the press and, with pistol cases, you can look directly into each case to visually check your powder charge. Dillon seats bullets at the back of the press and it is difficult to see in the cases. Dillon users rig up lights and mirrors to see their powder charges.

One other item, I would get is: http://www.powderfunnels.com/
Fyathyrio mentioned it in his post and it is an excellent accessory. This jewell works with the powder die/powder measure and "bells" your case mouth while charging the case with powder. It works with all calibers from .30 up to .50. So you only have to have ONE. Hornady makes caliber specific "Powder thru" inserts for each size case, i.e., 9mm, 40, 45, etc. They work but are difficult to adjust properly. I understand Hornady has redesigned those Powder-thru inserts and they are supposed to be much easier to adjust. I don't know as I have the old ones and don't use them any more since getting the PowderFunnel. A word of warning though, www.powderfunnels.com is a single-man shop and there have been some pretty good delays with delivery.

If you have any other questions, PM! Good Luck!!

nice! i was hoping to find an alternative for the Hornady ptx. Looks like ill be playing an order soon ... before April 1st of course hehe

i was reading about the new dimensions and how it has a roll crimp. Its kind of odd that it does since the majority of 9mm owners shoot semi auto... but nonetheless it looks like ill be buying a taper crimp die as well. Im reading the Lee Factory crimp die is really good.. after reading on google i still cant seem to find the difference between FCD vs Taper Crimp die..

so far my die setup will be looking like this..

                            Decap/Resize
                            Expand/Powdercharge (using the PTX)
RCBS Lockout Die OR Hornady Powder Cop
                            Bullet Seat
                            Taper Crimp

                            looks good so far?

One thing about the RCBS lockout die is it's not completely fool proof. While it's a great tool, it's not a replacement for careful observation of your reloading process.

From another post where I did some experimenting...

For this load I started at 4.5 grains and ended at 6.5 grains, making 20 rounds at each level in .5 grain increments using my Hornady LnL progressive. I set my new (to me) RCBS lockout die at 4.5 grains, and wondered what sort of tolerance it has for load deviations. Turns out I didn't have to reset it at all for any changes in charge weight. Once I was done with the batch I tried 7.0 (it caught a bit, but let it go through) and 7.5 grains just to see. It finally jammed at 7.5 grains, relatively close to double the initial set point, but still sensitive enough to catch a double charge at that weight and powder. Good to know that on mouse fart load levels it may let a double charge slip through, but you should still feel a bit of increased resistance.
