So I heard tell from a walmart sporting goods manager yesterday that they will no longer be selling ammo after Jan 1, 2010....

Somhow I want to call BS on this... Anybody have any other info? I could undertand Feb of 2011, but Jan of 2010??

It could just be that specific store.
Walmart pulled guns and ammo out of a BUNCH of their stores to reduce their employee training costs related to FFL compliance and gun/ammo storage issues.

I spoke with a couple employees in the ammo area at my local Walmart in Clairemont and they said there's serious talk of getting out of selling ammo altogether. All the AB962 BS would require them to keep excess paperwork, more floorspace, would require additional training, and would make them potentially liable in a worst case scenario. I'm sure there are other issues as well, but these are what I remember.

I'm not sure if they were speaking of that speaking of that specific Walmart, but if that one is talking about getting rid of ammo sales, I'm sure similar discussion is occurring all over.

I'm in San Diego as well and from the way some of the local Walmarts are dealing with ammo they just as well get out of the business. I'm sure the stuff going on with the 2011 time frame is a major factor for them backing out if they are backing out. I don't shop Walmart for anything I absolutly don't have to....just an old grudge.

I had thought about selling off some of the ammo I've accumulated and then thought...why? It's a better investment than a 2% CD...I got a feeling it's gonna get strange and expensive.
God and the Constitution give me my rights and actions...any other input is just blabbering.

Several of the Walmarts I have talked to over the last 2 years, both in state and out are either getting out of the firearms and/ammo business completely. The ones in CA have indicated that it is a hassle, they are receiving pressure, etc. The ones out of CA have claimed that Walmart Corporate is trying to consolidate based on sales so only the top performing stores (in terms of firearms and ammo sales) will continue to have it. If you ask me it's Walmart trying to follow the PC crowd like Target. Forgetting, of course, that their demo is "real people" not liberal pansies.

Think that's bad though... y'all should have seen the clerk's eyes bug out at our local Sports Authority when I asked if they had a cleaning mop for a .40. He said "you mean, like a real gun?" as he was physically backing away from me. Unreal.

First time and only time I went into an REI store I asked where are the guns and the lady freaked out. Nothing in that store for a real outdoorsman just a starbucks of the nature world.

I dunno, I've never been much for guns. I mean, sure, we have the usual gun by the door, another near the TV, one in the kitchen, and another in the bedroom...and several others laying around. For the most part though, we keep our home free of guns. We are peace loving folks.

I heard the same of the Walmarts in No. San Diego Co. (hearsay?). The new Dick's Sporting Goods in Carlsbad will not carry any type of ammo/firearms. I called this past Friday looking for some .40...

herd that rumor for awhile it wouldn't surprise me if they did stop just more reason not to ever go to Walmart again. Walmart is only good for 9mm and 22LR in my opinion.

are you misinformed? cause the law that is causing walmart to back out of ammo sales will eliminate online ammo purchases as well because they cannot sell to you without a fingerprint. So how would online prices save you?
