Do you remember cheaper ammo prices?

Yep; the Gemco in San Gabriel had Win Super X 30-30 for $5 a box of 20!
Not sure how many I bought, but, I'm still loading those cases.
And Mark is right; might want to stock up on components. Things may get a little sideways soon.

I used to be in aww when I would go to the sporting goods section there with my dad. He wasn't a gun guy but he did appreciate them and taught me gun safety along with his uncle, and Jeff's sporting goods was just a few hundred yards away.

I just got back from a last minute trip to Phillips Wholesale..stocked up on powder and primers for 5.56 .. prices are still high but I figure things are going to get worse over the next few weeks/months/years

Around 2008/09, I swear I remember the silver bricks of Winchester bulk .22lr going for about $7.95 at Walmart. Those ones had bare lead bullets, but you could get the copper-washed Federal bulk pack in the blue box for just a few dollars more.

Saturdays I used to go buy a bulk pack, shoot most/all of it at the range, and then treat myself to a nice lunch on the way home--spending more money on the lunch than I had on hundreds of rounds of .22LR.

Those days were fun.

In 2019 - 2020 the local Bi-Mart routinely had .22 on sale for 3.5 cents a round.

Oh yeah. Tax free Cabela's deals on the top of the discounted GCs, on the top of promos for CC holders, on the top of manufacturer's rebates plus the porch delivery were dirt cheap.

Applying for the mail-in rebate and cutting hundreds of the barcodes was still a hassle

I remember 22 ammo at under .50 cents a box. Course I mowed lawns for .75 cents... front and back..for extra cash to supplement my .25 cent a week allowance. Still...those were the good ole days.

I used to by Winchester 22LR for less than 5 dollars a brick (500 rounds) from Walmart. Back then I used to use about a 1000 rounds a week practicing.

I remember buying 1000 rounds of 7.62x39 steel case for $90 back in 92-93. But then I remember Russian SKSs for about the same price. And a $275 MAK90 was ?a lot of money? for a cheap chicom gun. 9mm and 45 were I think $7 a box. I still have some old Federal 9 mm I gave to a buddy that was on sale for 6.99

2. What the hell does it matter? I remember when Primers were $20 per 1K and powder was $9 per pound. That don't help me today. I remember when you could buy an AK47 for $199 and an AR for $399. But that don't help me today.
I've got a box of Federal Hi shok in 30-30 from 1973 that was $3.99 at Fed mart.
I remember when $100 would buy enough groceries to feed a family of four for a month.
I remember when you could buy dinner for a family of four at Mcdonalds with a $10 bill and get change back.

I just don't see the point in worrying about what something did cost as to what it costs today. I mean hell if we are going to do that. I remember gasoline when it was leaded and was $0.50 a gallon and a new ford truck was $4000. Yet today I make six figures and still can't afford a house here.

I remember 22LR for 68 cents a box of 100 and 30-06(and others) ammo for $5.98 per box of 20. It was cheaper to buy new loaded ammo and pull the bullets than buy new brass. I would pull the bullets and put the powder into a used sized/primed bass and load the bullet in it for plinking ammo.
