I received a in stock notice for reloaded 9mm 500 rounds for $449.99 plus tax and shipping. That is insane.

Stopped by a Bi Mart in Or. just to look.. had only 1 pistol cal. 380ACP FMJ $17.00.

I agree with the discussion that this will not subside until late 2021 or into 2022.

I really feel for all the younger new firearm owners that couldn't purchase ammo or arms prior.

This "shortage" will likely be a "sour grape" moment for arms ownership and obviously practice.

It's silly for us older arms owners to chide others for not being "prepared" or "late to the game". Many were too young and come from families that arms were not a way of life, as in older generations.

My mail carrier recently decided that he needed a defense shotgun (he has pistols) because of recent activity in his area. Firearms are not a major part of his life but he is also about to retire.

He was looking for something similar to the Mossberg 590 series and finding either some are no-nos for CA, are non-existent at this time.

I think it's going to be a while before resources resume to flow and manufacturing to catch up. And none of that going to happen until Covid is no longer in the spotlight.

This post has a lot of wisdom in it. I used to be as described here, growing up in the Bay Area. Got into firearms and reloading after Obama's election in 2008 and faced that panic. But the real catalyst for getting into it is that I finally finished waking up to why the 2A exists. That can take some time, folks. From then on, my views regarding firearms had to severely change from what they had been.

So, I got into it during a panic. Couldn't hardly find primers. Powder was a challenge. Brass was tough to get. But eventually I did get these things, over time. Also got plenty of lead and some moulds so I can cast my own bullets (this turned out to be a *VERY* wise idea). Lesson learned, and I stocked up as the panic(s) subsided.

I will not make fun of someone who just got into it and woke up like I did. That would be hypocritical as all heck. However, I *would* strongly encourage that person to learn from this dry spell and prepare when things are more available. That's what we should be doing.

I just spoke with our oldest son;today is his 57 birthday and he stated that the shelves are bare in his part of Colorado too. What's in stock locally is "real pricey".

It's going to be an interesting couple of years even if Mr. Trump wins. If he loses...

I have drastically reduced my range visits simply to keep from going through too much of my stock. It is annoying because I have new guns that I have not yet shot.

Not only that, but there is a diminishing skill level the longer the break in "practice sessions". Less practice, less handling, etc. can lead to fewer safety practices that we know but we become lax.

I hope you get to shoot your new arms soon.

Yes, that is definitely true especially when you get older like me.
I am very anxious to take my new guns out mainly to test them for proper functioning but also to enjoy my recent purchases.

OP, keep looking. You can find components, loaded ammo and arms for same or only slightly increased prices.
