From 2016 thru 2019 everybody got complacent thinking "Trump's in the WH, our gun rights are SAFE!"

Demand was low (people burning through the stockpiles of the Obama fear-years) and so were prices. A few, such as myself, cautioned folks that they needed to buy-buy-buy exactly BECAUSE the market was a glut and prices were bargain basement.

My last big stock-up spree was just before the window closed on mail-order ammo.

I've got what I think is enough to see me through this difficult time and out the other side to where ammo is cheap and readily available. My guess on that would be probably a year or two.

I don't get any pleasure from the "I told you so" routine, it's gotten old and tiresome. I just wish people would start listening in-between crunches. They remind me of the Grasshopper & the Ant fable.

OP, keep looking. You can find components, loaded ammo and arms for same or only slightly increased prices.

I received a in stock notice for reloaded 9mm 500 rounds for $449.99 plus tax and shipping. That is insane.

That's some crazy pricing, especially for reloads. For that price they should pay match entry fees, and a really nice dinner.

Before the mail order thing hit we could get 9mm stuff for $169/K once in a while on sale from Target Sports USA. It was always $200 or a bit less for the regular white box or Federal equivalent. Brand new factory stuff.

for my time-machine story, back when I had a buddy that reloaded, he'd press an extra 1k .40 for me, for a flat $100. What makes me most sad is I didn't know how good I had it. Today I bought some 7.62x54r brass cased for .80cpr, which isn't a whole lot more than it's been the last few years. Though I refuse to pay .80cpr for 9mm!

I have an out of the way storage cool dry storage space where I hoarded about 13K rounds of ammo about 10 years ago. I used to have a 40 but sold it. Thinking I've got couple of thousands rounds of factory 40 I don't need. I'd trade that for 308 brass and projectiles---just sayin

The key is to always keep an eye open for sales. Some years ago, I ran across Lapua brass in 7.62x54R...for 30 cents per case. For Lapua *anything*, that's amazing, so I bought some. That was the lesson I learned from the Great Ammo Rush of 2009. I was therefore ready during the Great Ammo Rushes of 2013 and 2020.

Hello all, thought id share a little story about attempting to buy some ammo today. My wife tells me yesterday she saw on Facebook a local shop of many here in Modesto had bulk ammo in stock. I went there today after work and went for 9mm which they did not have. I asked for a buddy of mine how much a 1000 rds of 40 s&w was? The employee replies "$799". Thinking he didnt hear me, i asked again the price for 1000 rds of 40 to which he replied yes, you heard right $799. Is anyone else seeing prices like this??? Apparently i haven't tried to purchase ammo in while! Good luck boys and girls!

Buddy taught a class a month ago. The students paid $1000 for 1000 rounds of 9mm from a gun store up around Sacramento. $1 per 9mm round??? That's ridiculous.

I just bought a new rcbs reloading kit and dies and shellholder and 1k bullets and primers and powder for less than that. Have money left over for brass and gas to go shoot.

I got 300 rounds of 40 S& W 160 gr FMJ , .30 cents a round a few days ago.
Cal Ranch Store. Buddy got the other 300 rounds. all they had.

$0.30/rd for .40 S&W seems on par with pre-COVID prices, as I recall, but only bought it once for a buddy's range trip, years ago.

9mm 115gr: $0.103/rd, or $10.30/100, all inclusive.
.38 SPL 158gr: $0.1168rd, or $11.68/100, all inclusive.

9mm 115gr FMJ: $0.131/rd, or $13.10/100, all inclusive.

9mm 124gr Plated FP: $0.1086, or $10.86/100, all inclusive.

.357 MAG 158 SJHP Full-House: $0.23/rd, all inclusive.

You have to buy things on sale/clearance to get reloads this low, but if you are panic-buying, and it's your only option, and it is worth it for you to have extra, but you pay more.

Better to pay a little more now and actually have ammo. And stock up during the times of plenty.
