    Ammo purchase attempt

Hello all, thought id share a little story about attempting to buy some ammo today. My wife tells me yesterday she saw on Facebook a local shop of many here in Modesto had bulk ammo in stock. I went there today after work and went for 9mm which they did not have. I asked for a buddy of mine how much a 1000 rds of 40 s&w was? The employee replies "$799". Thinking he didnt hear me, i asked again the price for 1000 rds of 40 to which he replied yes, you heard right $799. Is anyone else seeing prices like this??? Apparently i haven't tried to purchase ammo in while! Good luck boys and girls!

I hate to say it but that could wind up being a good price..

I don't recall prices ever getting this high

That sounds about right. And good luck finding components for reloading. It has been like this for months, the prices keep going up as product availability is scares. True market condition of supply and demand.

We just need to wait for the reply from the White House about releasing surplus ammo from the strategic reserve. I am subed to that thread. Any time POTUS.

                      That's insane.

I am just looking into reloading and am able to find what I need but I think it is because I am looking at .308 win and 6.5x55 swedish. Since it is my first time looking at the price of things I don't know if they are higher than normal or not.

I found 1000 large rifle primers for $41
                      Bullets are 30-32 cents

Is it normally cheaper than that?

I started reloading when 308 hit $6 a box. Or 30 cents a pop. And primers were 39 cents per hundred. But everything has gone way up since 1968.

I really feel for all the younger new firearm owners that couldn't purchase ammo or arms prior.

This "shortage" will likely be a "sour grape" moment for arms ownership and obviously practice.

It's silly for us older arms owners to chide others for not being "prepared" or "late to the game". Many were too young and come from families that arms were not a way of life, as in older generations.

My mail carrier recently decided that he needed a defense shotgun (he has pistols) because of recent activity in his area. Firearms are not a major part of his life but he is also about to retire.

He was looking for something similar to the Mossberg 590 series and finding either some are no-nos for CA, are non-existent at this time.

I think it's going to be a while before resources resume to flow and manufacturing to catch up. And none of that going to happen until Covid is no longer in the spotlight.
