I like single stage loading to get the most accurate load I can out of my rifles rounds. On the other hand loading pistol rounds on a single stage just plain sucks. at this time I just use a Lee. Its cheap and does what it should. One of these days I'll pick up a dillion 650 but until then its my little Lee and Band of brothers to pass the time

Dillon XL650, can't say enough about this thing. The powder feed is very accurate and I love all the alarms I can put on it like the powder charge alarm. The only thing is, it is a bit of a pain to change from small to large primers so I'd like a second one set up for small primers. I've been trying to beg my sister to give me her 650 but alas, she loves it as much as I do. I have loaded hundreds of thousands of rounds on the thing and it is just a bullet proof and well designed piece of machinery.

The only problem I have with the 650 is that I am looking into buyng a 338 Lupua and I was told that the 650 won't load the round. They said that the shell gets in the way of the auto indexer. Dillon told me to go with the 550 if I want to do .338 Lupua. I am just wondering if I should get the 650 and worry about something for the .338 later. Suggestions????

If you're getting it for doing the round and Dillon says it won't load it then I'd take their advice. The 550 is awesome, I just wish it had another station on it. That powder charge checker is awesome.

If you are going to be loading thousands of rounds of pistol also then I'd get the 650 for loading pistol and the 550 or maybe a nice turret press for the 338. I can't imagine you shoot more that 20 rounds or so at once with that rifle do you?

I don`t think that you would want to load 338 on a Dillon?
I load all my long range stuff on a single stage the precision is unbeatable.

I have a .308 and .300 win mag right now. I am looking to do the loading for those and then a .338 when I get it but that won't be for a couple months. I really won't do much in the way of pistol rounds at all. I only have 9mms right now and I just buy that in bulk. Its the .300 and the .308 rounds that are getting to pricey. Right now to buy .308 HPBT 168 Gold Match is about $26 for 20 rounds. To practice and shot that gets really pricey really fast, plus I have been noticing from box to box I am getting a big difference in volicity at times (and no its not air temp and so on, they were shot at about the am time and everything was pretty close to the same). Just trying to figure out which way to go.

I'd probably go with the 550 then. It's a great press.

550B and a couple of old Pacific and RCBS presses. Then I have 3 presses that I will be giving to people interested in learning the craft. Big Mac gave me 7 and I have given away 4 to potential addicts. Hey, the first times free ..........................
