It's the free bore of a factory Remington barrel that give the RDF's a bad rap.

I seat mine out to 3.057" in a factory Rem 5R and they shoot the lights out. .287 G7 BC too with 1000 yard velocity readings. they are damn good bullets for the money

When weighing 308 brass, PMC is generally right there with (or maybe it was heavier than?) Lake City. Thick walls, as near as I can tell.

The standard accuracy load for testing of 308 target rifles is 43gr to 44gr of Varget under a 175 smk seated to 2.82" oal.
The charge is varied to adjust for case capacity.
Thicker/heavier cases run the lower charges while thinner/lighter batches of brass can run the heavier charges.

thanks guys/gals, I picked up the rifle last night, they didn't have any SMK 175's or 2000mr. but I have plenty of varget and nosler CC 175's. I have some lapua brass coming and bought 2 boxes of FGMM 175 just for giggles. I loaded one of the FGMM rounds in my savage mag and I will have some room to seat longer when I make up some rounds.

I currently use Nosler 175 CC's and they seem to be doing OK for me.

This is the Federal GMM load. The only thing I do is the COL is .020 off the lands. It shrunk my groups down to .220 in my savage

I was positive I would be using varget in my 308.......

But i was extremely surprised to find AR Comp and IMR 4064 shoot lights out with 168gr and 175gr bullets.

39.9 gr of AR Comp in lapua brass

42.0 gr of IMR 4064 in lapua brass

I have shot 10 shot groups of each at 100yds right around moa.

                      175 SMK or nosler RDF
                      MR2000

rdf's don't like jump so seat withing .005 of lands and you'll be fine.

I tried the berger 175 VLD's and saw no difference @1000 yards so I can't justify the cost.
