Target Match 168 bthp. (2.820" cci200) To me, they're about as good as hornady's.

So while I am waiting for the rifle, I loaded up some zeroing/barrel seasoning rounds.

          15-----speer 125 TNT HP 44gr of IMR4895 in PMC brass 2.700"

          5-------Hornady 175gr HPBT with 41gr IMR4895 in PMC brass 2.800"

I am sure these aren't ideal powder bullet combos, but for my purpose they will work until
          My new components show up.....

####### One thing I noticed is PMC brass must be thick because I am low in the charge
Column and wouldnt be able to get anywhere near a max load in that brass.

4895 is a bulky powder and you'd be hard pressed to get 42-43 grains in there and still seat at mag length

that's one reason I said MR2000, it's dense enough to get a full charge and then some in the case with out compression. Varget works the same way and so does RL 15

I will pick up some mr2000 when I pick up the rifle, for now I will go with what I have on hand. Damn I should have used my norma 203b for this.

would have been a better choice for heavier bullets. 4895 is a great powder for 150's

                    I had great results for a target/antelope load for a Rem700V
                    Sierra 165 bthp Game King
                    Federal Match brass
                    CCI primer
                    4064 powder

Would print .5moa at the range. Longest field shot was ~400 yards in southern Wyoming for antelope.

super sonic or above 1300 fps? the transonic zone starts at about 1300 fps and that's usually when bullet instability can start. above 1300 fps and all is good, the closer to 1000 fps things start going down hill quick.

Not trying to bad mouth the 168 SMK but very few experienced shooters use it beyond 600. It typically peters out at 800 and can't stay in the black at 1000.

More like "why are you assuming my sonic?"

I hear ya, I have a good quantity of 4895 on the shelf. it just is not the best choice for 175's in the 308 but it works wonders for my Garand as well.

For my M-1A and Remington 700 with 20" barrel, I use:

Federal match brass or LC match brass
                              42.0 grains of IMR 4064
Wolf large rifle primer (used to use Federal Match large rifle primer)
Sierra 168 or 175 MK BTHP bullets
M-1A: Maximum mag length, Remington: .005" from the rifling.

                              Worked really good for me.

175SMK 41.7 IMR4064 FC/LC brass 2600FPS in 24” barrel. Substitute any 175 and adjust OAL it works with all of them. BTW RDF works awesome at 2.830” in my rifle. Heard people badmouthing them but they do shoot. Varget will get you another 100 FPS, 2000MR another 200FPS. Don’t drives yourself nuts trying to retain Mach 1.2 at 1000 yards.
