9mm Powder for New Reloader

Found a guy local that has a 1lb jug of discontinued IMR SR 7625 and a 1/2lb of Bullseye. A search shows the 7625 was a very popular powder with 9mm loaders. What would be a fair amount to offer - $20-$25?

I learned how to reload on a Dillion 550 using 40 year old Red Dot for 9mm. Then I went to Titegroup when I found some.

Win 231, True Blue, and Unique. But mostly Unique for me since I load mid and max charge.

big fan of unique for versatility, low price, impossible to double charge without noticing because it will spill over, never leaks because its flakey. I use it for 9,45,44,45-70. Only drawback is its dirty especially at low levels but nothing a few patches run through the gun cant fix.

x2! For beginners, safety is paramount. Unique makes it hard to doublecharge.

Economically, Titegroup and Hi-Scor 700X are the cheapest per load for 9x19, but you need to be really careful not to overcharge.

Interesting. What powder do they have the best luck with for function? 231?

Usually WSF and Be-86.

231 is very popular, but be aware that it is temperature sensitive

For 9mm AR, I've had success with H-6.

I use Tite Group for 147's and 150's. I use Vectan 9.5 for 124's.

I use Titegroup because it has been reliable for me, and it is very economical. The downside is that it isn't the cleanest, and it can get a little smokey with coated bullets. To me, those are not significant issues.

I have a bunch of HP38/231 on hand for my .38SPL loads, but I need to give it a try in my 9mm. I hear that it only needs .2 to .3 more grains to achieve the same results I'm getting from TG.

One thing I would recommend is to be careful about ordering large quantities of powder until you find a final recipe that works best for you. It might better to order a few 1# bottles of different powders to experiment a bit. On the other hand, certain powders are pretty easy to re-sell if you decide you aren't going to use the rest of it. CFE is probably one of these.

But once you find a powder you like, BUY A LOT OF IT. My goal is to have three years' worth of my chosen powder on hand at any one time, so that I don't have to sweat the next time we have an ammo/reloading components panic like we did a few years back. There were periods where you couldn't find popular powders for 4-6 months at a time.

Anyone use H-Universal. I ask cause I was given a sealed, 8# container and don't really know what to use it for. I load 9mm, 38 super, 38-357, and 454Casull. Not a lot of loading data for that powder out there.
