There is a way to measure bullet seating force, which should be proportional to the neck tension.
The gage measures in pounds, I have tension gages; my tension gages measure in pounds. When I want to measure neck tension I am out of luck but when I want to measure bullet hold I use a tension gage because it does not measure tension, it measure bullet hold.

And there is no way to convert tensions to pounds because there is no conversion and 'proportional' makes absolutely no sense.

There is crush fit and there is interference fit but there is no tension fit. If there was a gage that measured tensions I would have one.

Talk about tension on or around your neck

Yes Dunsel, tell them how many tensions are necessary to secure the bullet. Tell all the reloaders how you measure tension.

jimmykan posted a picture of a tool that seats bullets and measures the effort in pounds; I believe he should get his money back because the manufacturer did not furnish him a conversion chart for pounds to tensions. One more time; I have tension gages, my tension gages are marked off in pounds.

And then there is case head space, my cases do not have head space; my chamber does. There is a member that reported me to SAAMI, He assumed SAMMI listed case head space in their case drawings.

killer134, I can not believe you have no pride in your work. There is interference fit and crush fit, I have measured the effort necessary to overcome the crush and or interference fit, I have never measured the crush fit and or necessary fit with anything put a hydraulic gage, one gage measured up to 200000 thousand pounds.

I also have deflection gages, I could ask about deflection and measuring but I can not imagine you giving anything but a silly answer.

In physics, tension, as a transmitted force, as an action-reaction pair of forces, or as a restoring force, may be a force and has the units of force measured in newtons (or sometimes pounds-force).

The guy in this video is an idiot. I have been neck sizing for 45+ years, never a problem.

If you are paying attention to what you are doing (you should always pay atention), necking sizing is fine.

Ya. I fail to see how 0.002 clearance (pre-firing) and a theoretical, but not quite net fit (let's say 0.0005?) clearance is going to make any difference to a point of damaging a gun. The brass is going to do what it's going to do when it's fired. Significantly over-pressure? Sure.

When you neck size you don’t have .0005” clearance. You have variable clearance that makes it increasingly harder to close the bolt with each reload cycle Then you’re grinding the bolt lugs against the lug recess which leads to galling if you’re retarded and continue to neck size.

Proper fitting chambers like you get with a custom fitted barrel by a gunsmith who knows what they are doing go a LONG way towards making reloading easier.
For example, when using Redding dies with brass fired in PTG reamer cut chambers, the body will require minimal sizing.
The brass life is better as a benefit.
Because of the good fit, you can also get away with more firings while neck sizing before you have to full length size.

I think most people having problems with neck sizing are working with factory chambers which are commonly much larger than required.
This is causing the brass to get worked more.
