I wouldn't worry too much about the "ring", it's more cosmetic. Probably could be the edge of the seater plug is slightly sharp and can be smoothed over with a piece of 400 grit wet/dry paper or emery cloth. One of my RCBS seaters required a little "massaging".

Yeah that type of ring is pretty normal.

Let us know how the RL16 works. I have 16 pounds of it coming since I have heard nothing but great reports about it.

Good luck with the VLD bullets. I tried them but went the hybrid route since I was getting better results with the Hybrids.

What rifle are you going to shoot them with and barrel length?

about the ring...if the ring is actually indented into the jacket id be a little concerned because its deforming the bullet...if its just surface scratches then no big deal.

that said how much neck tension are you running and are you chamfering the insides of the necks?

thats what i run and can run up to .004 before i have any marks on my bullets from the seating stem.

i would not sand anything id just call john and let him know whats going on and he will take care of you...most likely just send you a new seating stem.

also i should add(you didnt answer)that if its just surface scratches i wouldnt worry about it if its actually indenting in the jacket i would.

as far as the 140 VLDs id be willing to bet they wont shoot at .020 off and thats the reason everyone just jams VLDs right off the batt...i shot a LOT of the VLDs and could never get them to shoot anywhere off the lands they always needed to be jammed a little and is why i dont shoot them.
