I load 5 grains of W231 with a 200 grain Missouri "Cowboy #4" bullet (LRNFP) and I use the "coated" bullet...This may not be a valid load for others so it's just for information as to what I do for me in my pistols...May not be safe or suitable for anyone else's guns.

If you use this combination you may wonder about the COL as the bullet is a pretty short one...again, just what I've found in my pistol.
God and the Constitution give me my rights and actions...any other input is just blabbering.

I have two light loads I've developed, and one "stouty" load that I prefer shooting (call me a recoil junkie).

        Light & Pleasant:
        230 gr RN Plated/Lead/Moly, 5.0 gr of Universal/CSB-1 Maxam
        230 gr RN Plated/Lead/Moly, 5.0 gr of HP-38

        Heavy load:
230 gr RN Plated/Lead/Moly: 6.7 gr of Longshot

Weasel, what load do you use for the 45 Colt? I use ACME 200 gr FN coated in 45 ACP over 4.0 gr Titegroup at OAL 1.250 for light recoil load, and wondered if they would work for 45 Colt too.

            230gr RN plated
            4.4 to 4.7gr of WST

4.4 is super soft but not 100% reliable.

4.7 is stout but has been 100% reliable the pass 1500rds

ok, I have both win231/hp38 and Trailboss available, guess I will start with 231, I like trailboss in my .45LC though.

I notice most people here are shooting lighter bullets, I have some 200gr LRN and also 200gr Cowboy powder coated bullet from Missouri bullets. They say on the box, optimized for cowboy action. Both my bullet types are .452 which I think is ok for lead ACP. Can I use my bullets or do I need to buy something else ?
What I am trying to do is just get plinking ammo at this point for the break-in period on the gun, its still in jail for another 9 days.

I load those slightly heavier, 5.3gr at 1.205. Somewhere I read to load them off the ogive so they're the same as round nose. It's by far my most accurate 45acp load

Some day I'll whiff a few over a chronograph and see what they run
