I use 230 grain FMJ over 4.7 grains of Bullseye. I went up to 5.0 grains, but that was pretty 'stout' to say the least. Not exactly pleasant to shoot all day at the range.Les Baer 1911: Premier II w/1.5" Guarantee, Blued, No FCS, Combat Rear, F/O Front, Checkered MSH & SA Professional Double Diamond Grips

I like Laser Cast 200gr LRNFP bullets, Unique, and Winchester Large Pistol Primers. The 200gr LRNFP's are equally accurate in my Ruger 45 Colt Blackhawk and Springfield 1911A1, in which they feed flawlessly.

Thank you to all that responded with suggestions. Reloading manuals are good, and do provide minimum and maximum load values. But only through time and experimentation within the parameters of the manuals do you get the best workable loads. I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel, so asking advise from those who have spent the time has always been advantageous. There is a lot of good information out there if you just ask.Comment

Someone mentioned Varget. Don't know about that. So, reader beware.Comment

It depends on what you are trying to achieve, accuracy or full power?
Have used Win 231, CFE pistol and Titegroup, all have their own virtues and drawbacks. Been using 200gr plated round nose for target. Btw, I prefer the 200 grain simply because it shoots more to point of aim than 230’s do in my handguns, you may experience just the opposite.
Whatever you do, don’t write down someone’s favorite defensive load and figure you can just go with that and not work up the powder charger in increments. Your guns may react differently to higher pressure loads.
Currently am using Xtreme 200 gr prn with 4.8 gr of Titegroup and CCI or Win SP primers (769 fps in my chrono). It functions flawlessly with just a little bit of snap and is more accurate than I am. The 1911 I had awhile ago worked just fine with only 4.6 grains of Titegroup exhibiting outstanding accuracy and being very mild . Mind these are target loads. I only carry factory loads but do load some JHP’s Hornady bullets to try and emulate the recoil and dynamics of my carry load, still expensive. My God, even the Conservatives are liberal in the messed up StateComment
