My portable reloading station consists of a Black and Decker workmate with a piece if 1 inch thick piece if wood clamped into it to act as a table top. I drilled holes in the edge (counter sunk from the bottom) of it to mount my hornady single stage press and mounted the plate for the powder throw on the opposite side of the press. Works great and I can set it up anywhere.

I keep all of my reloading tools in one of these (press, die sets, scale, calipers powder throw, hand primer, and misc accessories) along with my Hornady reloading manual.

So going through my brass I have 'LC' (lake city) and 'f c ' weird thing is both have one hole inside for the primer and both cases look like the have crimped primers, the 'D.C.' Says 223 on it. It should be commercial and not military right? It doesn't really look Beveled like I see in pictures.

The 'lc' has the NATO cross and manufactures date on it so I'm confident that its military. Just curious that the 'FC' is good to go without a soeacial depriming process and crimp removal

Don't fixate on whether it's military brass or not. If it's crimped, swage or ream it. If you're not sure if it's crimped, swage or ream it.

Also, there's different kinds of crimping. Besides the ring stamped around the primer pocket, some mfg's punch 4 small sections around the primer pocket.

These definitely look crimped with a ring. How do I remove the primer so I can swage/ ream the casing?

Not sure if that's a trick question. Remove the primer by depriming it. That process that this whole thread is about.

Just takes a little more force to remove, that's where the Lee decapping die is really handy. Not necessary though

you can use the standard deprime die on a crimped case?

Obviously I know what it's about. I'm the one asking the questions

This is what I've heard. Leading me to believe my deprime/resize die will be damaged trying to force this type of primer out.i don't want to break a pin

Shorten your decapping pin as short as you can. About as thick as a nickel is what some die makers state. The shorter the pin the lesser chance of damage to it.

BTW ----buy the LEE universal decapping die when you can...

As in...CUT it? Or do you mean adjust it up higher

Yeah I'm looking for the lee universal but have not found one

So was it the desk or the lube?

I have the Lee hand-loader and used to load 300WM years ago. My hands aren't anywhere near as sturdy as a desk and managed to make it work pretty well.

That said, I also use the Lee universal one for all of my brass. It adds a step, but it's served me very well the last few years.

15 bucks. Make sure you also buy the shell holder for the brass in question (or splurge and buy the complete set of 11 for 30 bucks).

I broke my 1/2" solid wood mount for a single stage press - resizing 30-30 rounds for the first time. Had always done pistol (9mm to 44Remmag/45Colt)

                            Didn't lube the cases enough.

And a bench press has a lot of weight and mechanical leverage.

I'll be getting the universal deprime tool and some more press bushings so I can just pop out the dies quickly

I believe it,I think this weekend I'm getting some steel and building a bench with support steel welded so the 'top' will have cross braces and be bolted down to it.well, that's the plan anyway
