Is there any difference between the RCBS Hand Priming tool and the RCBS Universal Hand Priming tool besides the shell holder? The universal one is about $20 more...

What caliber [ s ] do you reload ?
The universal does not require shell holders , but if you do the .17 , 25 acp and 50 S&W , you will have to buy the regular [ cheaper one ]. It will do the 50 AE [ rebated case - same as 44 mag . ]
As far as I know , it / seems to work , mine broke [ order an extra plastic primer holder ] and I went to Lee because they give you shell holders with the dies and when I want dies for the 32 and 25 ACP - RCBS had them back ordered - same with the 50 AE [ back ordered ] if I remember right . [ For those that care , I still have the red tube thins they came in ]
If you are wondering which to buy , the universal is a better buy and saves you from buying shell holders [ if you don't already have ]life member - CRPA and NRA

Off press I have gone to the Franklin hand primer, works perfectly
Mostly I prime on the press though.Fear is the spare change that will keep you broke

I load 9mm, 223, 6.5CM, and .308... I already have shell holders from Lee die sets. Do both of those RCBS priming tools have the same body? Same feel and smoothness in seating the primer? Thats my main concern. I want a smooth feel and not too much resistance to squeeze while seating the primers. I wont be able to shoot my guns if my hands are cramped up and I have carpel tunnel.Lamski

The doctor gave me a rubber ball to squeeze for carpel tunnel . There is a little more slop in regular as opposed to universal one .
How smooth it is depends on your hands / carpel tunnel . If you got carpel tunnel from typing , you will probably be able to feel .
I worked cobstructcon [ strong hands ] and even after surgery , could barely feel after seating .

To bad this wasn't a survey. My quick tabulations to this point are:
12- Prime on the Press
11- RCBS Universal Hand Prime
3- Lee
2- RCBS APS
1- each- LCT, Lee bench, K&M, RCBS Bench, M2, Franklin
I did this in a hurry so tabulations may not be exact, but should be close

Yeah, same here, carpal tunnel on my left forearm and it sure aches during Fall and WinterThe doctor gave me a rubber ball to squeeze for carpel tunnel . There is a little more slop in regular as opposed to universal one .

Ice it and ice it a lot. I don't do the rubber ball thingy as I use a pull up bar for a dead hang and squeeze as long as I can. Then, ice it and ice it a lot.

When I used a single stage reloading press, I quickly began using the Lee handheld priming tool. I was made out of cheap pot metal, but it worked. I then bought a 21st Century hand priming tool that uses Lee priming trays. The 21st Century priming tool is steel, and solid and I prefer to use it even over my Dillon 650. My Dillon 650 will occasionally seat a primer upside down.

smoothness will be dependent on your primer pockets being loose or tight. i use my left hand to hold the tool and the only discomfort i get is the metal backing into the pocket of flesh in between your thumb and index finger. no discomfort in wrist or fingers.I load 9mm, 223, 6.5CM, and .308... The LCT also primes VERY nicely. It is VERY addicting once you remove the autoindex rod...7 Billion people on the planet. They aint ALL gonna astronauts. Some will get hit by trains...
Need GOOD SS pins to clean your brass? Try the new and improved model...

And remember- 99.9% of the lawyers ruin it for the other .1%...Comment
