Do not throw 42.8 grains of H4350 into a shell and fire it. You have to work your way up to it in increments, checking the shell and primer as you increase the load.
The new lapua brass uses small rifle primers.

Interesting. The picture were confusing. I was wondering if the primers were sunk into the flash hole or something. They look tight.

Just buy this and be done with it. I am running this on my 6.5 Creedmoor and am pushing 140g 2850FPS without any pressure signs worth mentioning.

OP is running an FN SPR, not a gas gun.

Oops. My bad. Well either way I concur with needing smaller firing pin.

While overpressure is actually one of the causes of what you are seeing, I do not think that is your problem here. It sounds like your load is mild and as long as you are not jamming into the lands, it is most likely not a pressure issue.

I personally think bushing the firing pin channel in your bolt (and getting the firing pin turned down) as I mentioned earlier is your best bet to resolve this issue. That, or go back to using large primer 6.5 Creedmoor brass in this gun.

Note: The 6.5 guys did a test of Lapua 6.5 Creedmoor brass and used 43.1gr H4350 and a 140gr Hornady ELD X and got 20 reloads without any issues.

Thanks, I'm starting w/ your recommendation, will be shipping my bolt off this Friday after my shoot on Thursday. [emoji106]

                  Reloading 6.5 CM help

Ok, I went to the range last Thursday and a friend of mine w/his 6.5 CM had some Berger 140's loaded up w41.8 gr of H4350, I said what the heck, let me see if the primers he uses do the same thing as my CCI 450's. Well, to my surprise, 3 shot fine w/ not even a crater. He was using Federal Premium AR Small Rifle Match primers.
So I picked up some of those primers, worked up to 42.0 and 42.5 of H4350 and IMR 4451 and here is a pic of the results. At no time did the bolt become difficult to extract the cartridge.

Not sure if you can see but some of the brass has minor cratering. I really liked how the H4350 shot at 42.5 gr but my BIG question is, do I leave some room for change in temperature. It is 65 degrees today. Concerned on a hot day I may have a serious problem??? Maybe I should back it down to 42.25 and see how it performs, or lower?? I like the velocity. Do you guys still think I should have my bolt bushed? Thanks

Whats your target look like? Your not trying to find the best load, but your more trying to find the middle of the best node. That way when it is hot, your still in the node, when your drop +/- .1 grain in your charges your still in the node.

heres a good read about the powders your testing.....

The goal of this field test was to quantify the temperature stability of the popular Hodgdon H4350 and Varget powders and compare those to IMR’s new Enduron line of powders. To do this we carefully measured muzzle velocities of meticulously loaded ammo over a huge range of temperatures. This test was conducted by Patrick Middlebrook. ...

as far as bushing the bolt thats up to you but id say yes get it done.

as far as your load id call it done with the 42.5g of H4350...if groups open up went it warms up then drop .2g of powder and you should be good.
unlike most ppl that hand load i dont look for special charge weights or nodes i look for speed nodes...2750 is one speed node in a 6.5mm and should shoot the same + or - about 25fps.

personally i wouldnt shoot the 4451(i have and dont care for it)H4831sc would be a better choice.

Thanks for the good advice and the good read, I'm going to run w/ it. Going to get my bolt bushed too. Anyone want to buy 8 lbs of 4451 lol. I just bought a Swedish Mauser, I will use the 4451 in that.
