Your blowing CCI 450 Magnums and your below the velocity you get with factory ammo or the velocity on the factory ammo box?
The CCI 450 is a very tough primer generally speaking can you post some pictures?

At 41 gr of 4451 1 of 3 had mild cratering and velocity avg 2630
At 41 gr of H4350 all 3 primers had cratering and 2660 avg velocity

At 41.5 gr of 4451 all three primers had some cratering avg velocity 2674
At 41.5 gr of H4350 2 of 3 had heavy cratering and one blew all the way through 2690 avg velocity

At 42 gr of 4451 blew the first primer and stopped 2688 velocity

I checked the velocity of the factory Hornady 140gr ELD at the same time w/ my chrono,2750 and I have checked it in the past. I'm working tonight but when I get home tomorrow I will post a few pics, thanks for chiming in!!

My load is 43.1 gr H4350, loaded to max AICS mag length more or less with a 140gr hybrid. I can go all the way to 43.8 gr before I see really noticeable pressure.

I really think your problem is the firing pin area, whether it is the firing pin needs to be bushed or something else, as it pertains to using small rifle primers.

It's most likely your bolt head not pressure issues...you can try a stronger spring and see if that helps...or send your bolt in to Greg and have it bushed which is a better option IMO as it will address a couple of issues.

Yep. I am pushing a 140 SMK with 40.7 of RL 17 out of a 26" Bartlein at 2880fps. ZERO pressure issues. Even 41.5 of RL 17 has ZERO pressure issues. Thrice fired Win. brass.

Dump the Magnum primers and switch to CCI Br-4's.

Those aren't blown primers. If anything, they are on the border of being pierced (regarding the deep primer strikes). This is exactly what I was describing with regards to firing pin diameter and firing pin hole diameter, and the gap that will usually exist on a factory gun.

While overpressure is actually one of the causes of what you are seeing, I do not think that is your problem here. It sounds like your load is mild and as long as you are not jamming into the lands, it is most likely not a pressure issue.

I personally think bushing the firing pin channel in your bolt (and getting the firing pin turned down) as I mentioned earlier is your best bet to resolve this issue. That, or go back to using large primer 6.5 Creedmoor brass in this gun.

Note: The 6.5 guys did a test of Lapua 6.5 Creedmoor brass and used 43.1gr H4350 and a 140gr Hornady ELD X and got 20 reloads without any issues.

According to my Lee manual, you don't use small rifle magnum primers, you use large rifle primers, not magnum. I run the CCI Large Rifle primers, not magnum. I use 42.8 grains of H4350 with 140 Grain Berger Target VLD's. I also run Hornady brass. That gives me a velocity of 2813 fps. No cratering, no blown primers.

Do not throw 42.8 grains of H4350 into a shell and fire it. You have to work your way up to it in increments, checking the shell and primer as you increase the load.
