Rifles got thinned out because of that BS prop 63 that passed.

Who the hell wants to show off a safe of wheel guns and bolties?

(yeah, I know what I just said, but it is obnoxious and I am sticking to it...)

Is you safe going to become a bomb? Eff no. Are you going to have shrapnel, gasses, smoke and potential for fire inside your safe? Yes. Any fire wouldn't last long, the gasses and lack of oxygen will starve it, but it's still a real risk.
I wouldn't store primers or powder in a safe that may burn & destroy important documents. I store those items in a room that has a lock on the door to keep kids out.

Yea, here in CA I care more about my guns than the ammo. It is hard or impossible to replace some of my guns now. I always bolt the safe to the concrete slab, I mean, why wouldn't you bolt it down. My ammo is stored separately. Now I do wish I had more guns for the safe.

It depends on how well the shelves are supported. I use some old kitchen cabinets in my garage to store ammo, and one day the weight collapsed the shelf support tabs. They weren't made to support all that weight, and I had to install some reinforcement to keep it from happening again.
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

FWIW, smokeless powder makes it's own oxygen.

If you can fit your ammo into a safe you're doing it wrong.
