Were you using the original collet (cartridge holder) that came with the puller or were you using a shell holder in the puller to hold the cartridge?

I have pulled many, many rounds over the years and never had that happen.
Not sure why it happened to you.

I was using the provided collet cartridge holder, no modifications to what is provided with the hammer bullet puller.

Can't explain it... just know it scared the cr@p out of me

I'm not a fan of kinetic bullet pullers.

I'd recommend getting a press-mounted Hornady or RCBS bullet puller die. I have one mounted on a dedicated Lee "Reloader" single stage press (which are pretty inexpensive, often less than $30).

Never had one pop on me. And, I've pulled many a bullet with a kinetic puller.

Did OP talk nice to the bullet to make it relaxed before striking it against the ground? Talk nice to your bullets before you whack them in a kinetic puller and they will not be as tense and go off as much.

The only bullet I have not been able to pull so far with my Kinetic was the Chuck Norris round I made as my very first round. It is filled with Reloder 7 and a 124gr HP Rainier pressed down to look like a Ramjet engine...

Collets can NOT pull bullets once they are down too far, but I think Kinetic can pull them unless the-hmm, No. Even if the crimp is heavy, Kinetic can pull all pills, you just gotta whack it harder...

Yes you can take that out of context if you wish.

So true! I like my press-mounted RCBS collet puller die for whenever I make a "mistake" with RN and SWC bullets, but I still need the inertia puller for .38 DEWC that are seated nearly flush.

Agreed, I love mine. I started with the kinetic type...lets just say there's a lot of bashed up wood in my office lol.

I have read other threads where the OP mentioned that the primer went off in a kinetic puller. It happens. Primers are not that predictable.
