    Lee Pro 1000 Primer ?

Looking at retiring the Lee Turret press I've been using for the last 25 years and I'm thinking about the Pro 1000.

I see it says that it will only work with CCI or Remington primers.

Does anyone have any in put on this?

I have a lot of different primers and want to make sure I could use them.

    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

    GET A DILLON!

(sorry, I just wanted to see what it was like to be that douchebag...)

Seriously though, I use my Loadmaster with Tula, S&B and Wolf primers.

I put any and ALL primers through my Lee Classic Turret. I know the Loadmaster has a blast shield. You mean the Pro-1000 does not have any such blast protection shield? That sucks if it is the case... You can probably find out which primers are harder or softer anywhere on the internets...

Oh dear. I think I might have uncovered a conspercy!

Need GOOD SS pins to clean your brass? Try the new and improved model...

Yf it means anything , I stopped using any primers except CCI .
I have a load master and replaced the primer tubes twice . Once I went to pee and my brother punched the garage door opener - some primers blew up in tube [ maybe static ? ] I had one of harbor freight floor sweeper magnets and a hand level that picketed up the primers - by the way - putting primer in water does not work - I ended up putting then in a can of latex paint .
2nd time a primer went sideways in tube and I tried several thing to remove - I tossed tube .
I never was a big fan of multi use stuff . Any way , I de-prime [ frankford de-primer ] , clean primer pockets and use the Lee hand primer .
The de-capping die is just for sizing , then the powder die , seating die , depth die [ yes it is another die ] , then the last one is for crimping .
When I bought the Lee , all they had in stock was the 550 [ 4 die ] , I wanted 5 dies and they had the loadmaster .

the loadmaster doesn't have primer tubes so if you had primer tubes on a red press it was a hornady not a lee

It is that red / black flat thing that holds the primers . Primer in chute thing blew off the cover . I replaced the cover with a new one , later a primer got stuck in the new chute . I probably should have said chute or square tube

I was buying whatever was on sale / they had and
Was having problems . Bought a box / tab of 100 CCI's and problems went away .

I've used the following brands of primers on my Lee Pro 1000's, both small and large primer sizes, without any problems.
                • CCI
                • Federal (not recommended, but yes, they work)
                • Fiocchi
                • Magtech
                • Remington
                • Winchester
                • Wolf/Tulammo

The reason for the "not recommended, but they work" statement regarding Federal primers is the same as for on any other progressive press (yes, including Dillons--ask people about the primer tube fireworks displays). Federal primers have rather soft primer cups. That means it's easier to punch them than it is for other brands. That's great if you're running a race gun or some other gun with a lightened hammer strike. Not as good if you're running a progressive press. That's why the blast shield is there on the Loadmaster.

Now, do some people use Federals? Sure! Of course! They know that there's a bit of heightened risk of a primer chain reaction, and they're willing to accept that risk. Why? A lot of these folks do load for "race guns" and compete with them regularly.

What primers do I use in most of on my Pro 1000's these days? Well, none of my guns have lightened hammer strikes, so I use mostly Tulammo primers these days, with some Winchester large primers for my ".45 Colt Magnum" load.

I've run many thousands of wolf primers through my Pro 1000

I completely ground up a few primers in my Hornady by accident, they loaded offset. But my press and the table it sits on is entirely grounded, perhaps that's why nothing happened.

Thank you for your insight. I think I'll keep the turret press and use it for things I don't shoot as much as well as to us up my Federal primers.

Haven't had any issues with CCI (6k loaded with small pistol primers).

I ended up going with Sellier & Bellot primers due to a decent sale price--bought up 10k. They load fine as well.

I was a bit concerned because upon inspection the S&B primers appear to have a "steeper" edge (less rounded on the bottom) than the CCI's. That gave the appearance of being "oversized". I'm about 1200 rounds in with S&B small pistol and they load fine on the brass I pickup (FC, PMC, Winchester, Blazer, GFL, Tulammo, Speer, Aguila, RP, Perfecta (a bit tight), A USA (very tight fit), S&B (very tight/crimped), even the occasional FM/IMT that slips though the cracks). I almost feel like they have a very, very slightly smaller diameter than the CCI's. So they load a bit easier. You will definitely feel when you are trying to prime a crimped case. Still haven't outright crushed one yet.

I just crushed a few CCI primers in WCC cases. Sometimes they won't even load, and my calipers tell the truth... The primer pockets are too small on some (all range pickup, not mine).
